pqmr 7 Posted April 27, 2016 @@nursey10465 I think you just figured out your issue. Water and Protein is essential to losing and staying healthy. I learned this very early on as well. As soon as I was able to get a minimum of 48 oz. of Water, I noticed my weight started dropping rapidly. The same is true of Protein, your body needs it badly. I learned in the beginning to literally hold that water cup in my hand and sip until it was gone. I start in the am even now with 2 16 oz bottles of water. I get my 48 before lunch every day. The cup is in my hand and I would sip about Avery 15 seconds or so until it simply became a habit. The same thing with my Protein shake. I literally hold it in my hand and sip on it until gone. For some reason when I set that cup down, I forget about it. Your body is likely in starvation mode. You need to get a handle on this and when you do, you will see a significant change. I promise! Thanks for your advice. You always have positive, constructive feedback.
kcthegreat 2 Posted April 30, 2016 I've only lost 19lbs and I'm a month out from surgery. I lost those I the first 2 weeks. I haven't lost anything the last 2 weeks. I make sure I get my Protein in daily and I've been exercising. I drink constantly but it doesn't seem to be budging. Any suggestions on how to get it to pick up again? I'm feeling behind and hopeless. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
pqmr 7 Posted April 30, 2016 Ok everyone. I had about a 3 week stall. Then, all of a sudden-BOOM. I lost 14lbs. Couldn't believe it. So, don't give up and don't get discouraged. I can now eat about 3/4 cup of food 6 weeks out. My vice is Jamba juice smoothies. I drink about 3 oz twice a week. I feel like it's bad because it tastes so good. I may be wrong here- but shouldn't we be keeping to 1/2 cup of food per meal? I'm bypass, maybe that is why? I'm 6 weeks out as well and can't eat more than that physically. I'm so scared of stretching that little pouch! Lol

pqmr 7 Posted April 30, 2016 No. I'm bypass. For me, its relative. One sitting for me at a meal is one hour. So yes, I can eat 3/4 in an hr. Can I eat 3/4 cup of meat; any type of meat-well no. Can I eat 3/4 cup in a half hour-heck no. Do I eat 3/4 6 times a day-no. Can I always eat six times a day-no :-(. I usually have one meal a day-at lunch that is 1/2-3/4 cup. I really really try to have this one meal because the rest of my day is snacks: half a bag 3/4 oz of Protein chips (you must try them), 3/4 of a Greek Oikos yogurt, 3 tbs cottage cheese, one tuna pack, etc. I eat my Snacks in about 15-25 mins. Most of the time I eat 2 tbsp because that's about all I can stand. My NUT says to eat 1/2 cup 5 times a day. Not going to happen for me. If I'm awake from 530a-9pm-that's 15.5 hrs. That would mean I'd have to eat 1/2 cup every 3 hrs. Not gonna happen. Not feasible for me at all. Now, I can eat every 4 hrs if it's a couple tbsp or so. Then there's also the variable of not drinking 30 mins before or after eating... But to answer your question. My doc suggests eating 3/4-1cup at meals. In fact, I have constantly scolded for not eating enough. My NUT and surgeon also do NOT want me relying on getting my Protein in liquid form at this point. I think I've rambled enough. Ha! I hope this all makes sense. Btw-I'm now 35.5 lbs down from sx on 3/14/

I'm so scared of stretching that little pouch! Lol I think it depends. I read by 3 months the RNY pouch usually expands to closer to a cup in size, and I bet that varies. Also I find the liquid foods may pass faster onto my duodenum, but besides shakes, I never measure the volume of my meals. Semi solid things like yogurt or puréed refried Beans are never an issue. I once heard you can't physically stretch the bypass pouch although it gets bigger with time, but I don't know what the truth it. Usually they say it is the stoma that widens to much, allowing food to pass faster, but that isn't from overeating.
