Help!! I lost 15 lbs prior to surgery on March7. I have lost 22 more since surgery, but it was all in the beginning! I have been stuck fluctuating between 220 and 223 for 2 weeks at least, starting to feel hopeless, like this will never happen!! I am so afraid that my surgery didn't work! ( I'm a prior lap band failure )

It is common to hit stalls along the way. The primary requirements after surgery are meeting the daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. Exercise (around 30 minutes of walking each day) is also important. So just be a little patient and let the magic happen.

I'm finding out that stalls are very common. My sx date was 3/14 and I'm down 25lbs post op. The first 21lbs were in the first two weeks. Have you been taking pictures or measurements? Although I haven't lost much more since 2 weeks post op I can literally see myself shrinking.

I'm in the same boat. Surgery was 2/24 I'm down 36 lbs. I am stuck. I know my Water intake and Protein intake are horrible. But with the lack of calories I am eating vs pre surgery it don't make sense. Sometimes I feel like this isn't working for me.

NJ girl.

I'm in Medford NJ. I am exactly in the same boat as you. Water....awful.

Protein. ...so so

Calories 6-800.

I too can see myself smaller and smaller, but NO scale movement for weeks.

I am beginning to think I went through all of this for 38 lbs. I feel as if I'm destined to be done losing. How can that be on that many calories? ?

Unless you drink enough Water and have enough Protein - your body will hold onto the fat and you will not lose as much. This isn't about calories. You need to follow the program or you'll end up with issues (dehydration, exhaustion, etc). You need fluids and protein!

I think you just figured out your issue. Water and Protein is essential to losing and staying healthy. I learned this very early on as well.

As soon as I was able to get a minimum of 48 oz. of Water, I noticed my weight started dropping rapidly. The same is true of Protein, your body needs it badly.

I learned in the beginning to literally hold that water cup in my hand and sip until it was gone. I start in the am even now with 2 16 oz bottles of water. I get my 48 before lunch every day. The cup is in my hand and I would sip about Avery 15 seconds or so until it simply became a habit.

The same thing with my Protein shake. I literally hold it in my hand and sip on it until gone. For some reason when I set that cup down, I forget about it.

Your body is likely in starvation mode. You need to get a handle on this and when you do, you will see a significant change. I promise!

Thanks so much..

I have NEVER been a Water drinker. I guess since my body has always functioned on borderline dehydration, I thought I was ok. I am definitely better than before surgery but no where near 64oz.....Protein wise, my doctor does not believe in shakes post 4 wks. He wants real food. I try, but can't get in the quantity

I am 19 months post op and still have to drink 1 30 gram Protein shake per day. I have good restriction and have a hard time getting enough dense Protein at my meals. I am allergic to legumes and my pouch does not tolerate eggs which I am still sad about.

You do what you have to in order to stay healthy.

I struggle with the Water ...if I drink to much at a time it burns.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
