Hi! I'm new here..I just had surgery Wednesday April 13th..I'm pretty miserable..I was okay until Saturday night around 8pm when I had my first bowel movement which was diarrhea and then it just didn't stop..I was constantly cramping and constantly on the toilet I called my dr yesterday he said to eliminate dairy from my diet which I didn't really think would do anything because I hadn't eaten anything in the past 48 hours anyway...I'm scared to eat anything at this point because I can't stop pooping..it's gotten a little better today but not much...but now with elimating dairy I feel there's not much for me to eat in the stage 2 diet yesterday all I had was a Popsicle which I'm pretty sure just counts as Fluid anyway..he also said to take the shakes out of the diet so I've been drinking Isopure for protein..but I don't feel I'm eating or drinking enough and I'm worried I'm not doing right...I just don't feel good.. I also have a bad taste in my mouth that I can't get to go away anyone know what's up with that? I see the dr tomorrow..but I just needed somewhere to go that I could rant too and to people who most likely know what I'm goi g through! Thanks!

Well, I will be 4 weeks out tomorrow, I dealt with everything you mentioned and I can tell you it will get better.

Where to start.....the diarrhea. I know everyone is different, but I too had it and like you I wouldn't eat while out because you just never know. It started easing up in my 3rd week, but I still won't eat while out.

Everyone says follow your Drs orders, which is great advice, but when you are going through whatever, it's pretty scary and your thoughts and emotions are going crazy. You've made this huge decision and you not only want to survive, but you want to be successful.

Now onto the bad taste. I actually just posted yesterday asking for food choices because for whatever reason everything I tried, if the smell didn't get to me, the taste did. One bite and I would throw it out. It's very frustrating. I was given a ton of great food choices, but one poster suggested I clean my tongue prior to eating. Today I did and actually, what little I have tried I was able to eat. I was thrilled.

In my opinion, you did a good thing by posting. I'm still new in this journey myself, so there are others that can offer better advice. However I can assure you you are not alone.

Good Luck!!!!

Sounds like he wanted to eliminate dairy because of the fat content/lactose sugar that may be making you have these issues. Perhaps try finding a milk-free Protein drink?

I had a lot of these same issues in the beginning as well, and now I have them very rarely, and I've figured out which foods do it to me. For the moment, it's most likely your body just going through some rough times as it heals and tries to make sense of this huge trauma.

Getting in your Protein and Water and Vitamins in the beginning is essential! Hopefully this next visit to your doctor can help you, but you cannot go much longer without getting in the protein you need. I wish I had more advice to offer you. Just hang in there, I'm better it will be getting a lot better very soon.

After surgery, I became lactose intolerant. Whenever I drank a glass of milk it resulted in stomach cramps and diarrhea. So I quickly learned to remove milk from my diet. Some Protein shakes contain lactose. So you might want to read the labels. This condition disappeared after about 2 months and from that time I have been able to drink milk again.

The most important things after surgery are to meet you daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. So concentrate primarily on those requirements. food is secondary because you body is converting your stored fats into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. If you want to maximize your weight loss then it is also important to walk about 30 minutes each day.

My surgery was April 13 as well! You're the first I've found with the same date. I can't relate with the diarrhea but I do know they make lactose free Protein powder! I'm having a hard time meeting my protein as well because all the shakes I've tried are awful to get in. So sick of milky things.

Ashley , I agree I hate the shakes! I was actually happy when the dr said to stop taking them...I found a drink called Isopure sold at gnc..has 40g of Protein zero carbs and a ton of flavors!

I am going to head out tomorrow to see if I can find Isopure. I've heard a lot about it on here. I'm from Canada and every time I get an awesome suggestion we don't have it. Or I have to pay double on Amazon.ca! Going to make a list and go Protein hunting! Thanks for the tip!

I had a similar issue after surgery. I was lactose intolerant. I switched to Fairlife milk. LOTS more Protein and no lactose. I am now 5 months out and I don't have any problems with lactose anymore, but I am still drinking Fairlife milk. I love milk so this was a big deal for me. Fairlife to me tasted like regular milk and combined with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein shake mix it was just like chocolate milk. Good luck. It gets better.

I hope the suggestions help you Katie. And everyone, Thanks for all the ideas! I'm two months post RNY and have nausea daily. I will try the Isopure. I'm already on lactose free milk but maybe I can find Fairlife and try that.

I also had surgery April 13

I was lactose intolerant pre op but only from direct cow milk (weird) and surgery just made it worse.

I am able to drink my shakes

I make them with soy milk

While still at the hospital when I was put on stage 3 I remember the night before getting discharged, for dinner I was given Protein Powder and regular fat free milk. I did ask for soy milk but they had none.

Oh Boy! That night my stomach felt AWFUL and I felt the urge to go to the bathroom; however it was impossible I was unable to go because nothing would happen as much as I tried.

It was really bad. And after being sent home I took one dose of the Constipation powder med ( it tastes eew) the doctor prescribed. About an hour later I had diarrhea ongoing for about 4 days. And I haven't had fat free regular milk again after being discharged. So I think your new pouch changes many things in your body and you insides are more sensitive. Just like a baby's stomach some milks just make them sick.

Be strong

Hope things get better

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
