Hi Everyone,

I am at my final weigh in and am still debating which surgery to have, I am leaning towards to the sleeve although my surgeon is encouraging the lap band. What made you decide the sleeve over the other options?

Thank you so much!

@@Isabel2point0 I originally went in thinking lap band and my surgeon recommended the sleeve. He indicated that 50-60% of the patients who had lap band required a secondary surgery (band slippage, erosion, and other complications). The lapband averages less weight loss too - and at my weight - I need to lose more than what is typical with the lap band (of course there are exceptions). The Bariatric Program that I go to has been around for over 25 years and has an excellent reputation. The surgeon indicated that they remove more lap bands now they they put in. So - I decided on the sleeve. Reading alot about the lap band - I found what he told me to be a common complaint among lap band folks. Many are switching from lapband to the sleeve or bypass after having complications with the lapband.

What reasons does your surgeon have to encourage lapband? Good luck with whatever you decide!

I think you'll get mostly positives for the sleeve since you're in the sleeve forum.....but I decided on sleeve because I don't want to worry with multiple adjustments and I know while doing my research I saw way too many complications with lap band....To me the decision between lap band and sleeve was an easy one....the one that took a little more thought was decided between sleeve and bypass.......and for that the bypass just seemed more extreme than what I wanted to do.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I posted this in both forums, I just walked out the doctors office and made the decision to go with the sleeve. Scheduled for 5/27. I am nervous, scared and excited at the same time.

I have heard that more people have been successful with the sleeve. This is not scientific info but I think you lose quicker and have a better chance of keeping it off without complications. My friends that have had the lap band have tended to gain their weight back. I had the sleeve in early November and I have lost 60 pounds. Bought a size 4 jeans this weekend. 10 pounds to goal. I'm 52 years old and couldn't be happier! Good luck to you! You will do the right thing for you! Ask a lot of questions and talk to your doctor and your Nutritionist.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
