People I Work Closely With

Recommended Posts

Today I'm going to be telling the surgeon and physician assistant I work very closely with that I will be off for a month. My mind and stomach are churning right now trying to figure out how I'm going to explain it. They depend on me. I've thought about telling them that I'm having a small bowel resection. I'm just wondering if thats the right explanation I want to go with. I don't want them to think I'm having weight loss surgery. I don't want to be looked down upon and look like a lazy fat girl.

Those that care about you and are close to you, will understand how important this is for your health. I felt the same fears before I had my surgery and I found that everyone was very supportive. You are strong for making this decision to change your life and if they care, they'll do whatever they can to be there for you.

I would hesitate to lie to a surgeon & PA. Do you really think they would look down at you and think you're lazy? There's nothing easy about WLS - it's not the easy way out or for "lazy people"! If you prefer not to tell them - then just say you're having surgery and leave it at that. I would be more embarrassed if they found out you lied.

People are so wrong in thinking it is the easy way out. But, I understand. I have not told anyone but my immediate family. When asked why I was in the hospital I just simply said I'm having abdominal surgery they're going to be working on my guts and stuff. Nobody questioned it after that. :)

I really don't care what other people will think of me after my procedure. I'm doing this for me and no one else. That's how we all should think. Were taking care of our health.

Amen Mudgy6!!! I'm doing this for me and my health and I don't care if they think it's the easy way out or I'm lazy! I'm 62 and I just don't care!! The only one that matters is me and my daughter and two g-sons who I will be able to spend a better quality of life with! But I too wouldn't lie to a boss...tell him you are just having surgery.

I told my boss I was having surgery and would be out for 3-4 weeks. All he cared about was getting a note for the surgeon saying I could come back to work. If he asked what the surgery was I would have said it was for "woman things" and made my lower lip quiver.

People do look at WLS as the easy way out and have other preconceived notions. I don't want to hear it. I need positivity.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
