16 Months After Surgery -- Weight Loss Stopped! HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have complained about this before, but am now getting really frustrated. Am a 58 year old woman who is 16 months post surgery. Have lost most of my weight, but would like to lose 15-20 more pounds. I seem to have an inability to lose more weight, and am not happy about it. I have lost and gained the same 2 pounds for three months now. I eat about 1200 calories per day, high Protein and very low carb (no bread, Pasta, rice, sweets). I walk at a quick pace for about 30-45 minutes a few times per week and lift weights at a gym a few times per week. Have talked to nut, but is of no help. I don't know what else I can do, or why this is happening. Anybody else have any experience with this? Any advice??? Thanks so much!

Have you talked about this with your NUT?

Are you exercising?

Edited because obviously I didn't read your post very well.

What did your NUT advise?

Maybe you could try shaking up your exercise. Try something different. Maybe take a class.

Maybe your body is happy where it is at?

I also am in the same situation and was told by my dr to try the two week liquid diet at same time you started exercising and or more exercising to jump start the weight loss again..

@momcat...you have lost 93lbs that is awesome. I know they say the last 15-20 is the hardest to lose. Another factor may be loose skin, etc. Not sure if this is an issue, but I know it is for some.

Someone already mentioned your body may have reached its happy place. However, just out of curiosity, how did you determine what your ideal weight for the goal you set? Just wondering as I am the same height as you and have the same goal weight as well.

When I was younger I weighed around 135 - 140 and that was a good weight for me at the time, so I thought 145 would be a good goal for me now. Nothing scientific about how I came up with it, it's just a number in my head. If I stayed at this weight I could live with it, but my fear is that I am being so strict now and not able to lose that if I started relaxing a little bit and eating more like a "normal" person, i.e. a bite of Pasta or bread now and then, a bite of dessert, that I would start to gain.

Ugh!!! Don't know if I could do a liquid diet for two weeks!! Also, have exercised this whole time. I could try to step that up or change up what I'm doing and see if that does anything for me. Any other ideas???

I don't know how much Protein you are eating now, but you might try upping your protein.

@@Momcat, thanks for writing this post for me. We are in identical boats. I am almost 53 years old & stopped losing weight back in November I have tried just about everything. I work out 4 to 5 days a week, change up my exercise, eat approximately 1200 cal a day and Protein is about 100 g a day I lose and gain the same 2 pounds, so frustrating.

I am currently trying to lower my carbs. I realized when I looked at my carb intake ( which I never paid attention to) I was at approx 100g. Waaay to high when in the weight loss phase, so I'm trying to keep it under 50 to see if that works and also trying to reduce my red meat intake.

Makes me feel a little better to know other people are going through the same thing I am! My carbs are pretty low, under 50, but still no weight loss. I was supposed to see my doc on Thursday and I was going to ask him for advice, but they just called to postpone! The one thing I do need to improve is my Water intake. Maybe that will help?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
