So where are 30 somethings shopping?

Recommended Posts

I wanted to get a goal outfit and realized I don't even know where normal sized women my age shop?! My 30 something friends are plus sized and my 20 something friends buy dresses so short I considered getting one as a shirt. I like girly, slightly bohemian style, similar to anthropologie. But nothing really jumped out at me on their website. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Try Forever 21. I am 40 something, but I have two teenage girls who keep me fashionable. They have a lot of boho style tops in their contemporary collection. I love their dresses, too, but they can be a bit short so watch the measurements.

My go to store now is Kohls. Between their sales and clearance racks I've bought some very nice things super cheap

Try Urban Outfitters. It was suggested to me when I asked the same question, wanting something similar to Anthropologie but cheaper. I have a boho style as well :)

I left my 30's a while ago - but if you have a Marshall's or TJ Maxx near you - they usually have some great stuff!

The other option is Target - I saw a lot of cute stuff there (even in Plus this year).

I am not in my 30s but I would hesitate to get a goal outfit, mostly because I have NO IDEA what my shape and size will be when I get to goal. I am more inclined to save my money and get something really fabulous that fits me perfectly when I get there.

I think I like the idea of getting the biggest size at a normal size clothing store and just trying it on periodically until it fits and then I know I can shop there :P

If you like anthropologie, I second Urban Outfitters that was suggested upthread. Also, H&M and Old Navy have some boho stuff.

I stick to Target and Old Navy for cheap but comfortable/marginally fashionable stuff (Kohl's and Ross as well). Target definitely has nicer stuff with a more interesting selection than many of the department stores I've visited, and there are still larger/plus sizes if I want something a little bigger or if a certain style is too small for my still-massive chest. Unfortunately, Torrid's clothing is too big on me due to their vanity sizing. I don't fit into their size 14/16, and yet at other stores I can be 18/20.

I recently hit Forever 21 sizes. I love that store and H&M. My advice though would be to wait to buy a goal dress until you are at goal because your style and personality might change as you go or you might accidentally breeze past the goal size you bought and never get to wear it. I know I've breezed through a few sizes without really making use of the clothes so now I'm just buying for the size I'm in and a size or two smaller in small quantities so I don't waste too much money.

I agree that it may be a little too early for a goal outfit. Its difficult to tell where you're going to end up. Personally I'd be concerned about the mental effect of possibly buying it too small and diminishing all of the work I HAD done by becoming overly concerned that my 'goal' outfit doesn't fit. I always keep an outfit one size smaller than I'm wearing, but that is strictly because A: I want to know when I've officially dropped a size, and B: I always want at least one outfit that fits properly.

For 30-something clothing in the meantime, however, I'm another avid Old Navy shopper. Almost everything I currently own is from there. The clothes are cute enough that you don't feel matronly, but still reasonably modest for our age (no super short hems or overly revealing bustlines). If you keep an eye on the sales its quite an affordable place to stay in size for those of us who would rather not bury our new bodies in our old clothes as we lose weight. .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
