I struggle with how I see myself in the mirror. I never saw myself being as big as I actually had become, and now that I am losing I am having a hard time seeing the changes from that. The "before "pic is really just earlier in the process and taken in December. I began my preop exercise and diet on 11/23/15. I lost 29lbs on my own before having gastric bypass on 4/4. I am down 40lbs now. At my heaviest I was 274, in the before pictures I was likely around 261. I currently am 235.

At first I didn't really notice the difference but I am now starting to the more I look at it. It may not be much, but it is the least I have weighed in 3 years, when I got down to 223 before getting pregnant.

I am very glad I have started down this path, and I am very excited to see what my future holds!

Keep up the good work! I am in the same boat as you, in relation to not seeing or recognizing the difference(s). I have never in my life considered myself skinny and the other day I was in the locker room (with a good friend) and she said omg, I just seen your ribs, have you ever seen them? I knew what she meant, but it was funny how it came out. So, I then explained to her that yes, I can see my collarbone, when I lay down I can see my hip bones and ribs and NO, I have never been able to see any of those things in the past.....EVER! It takes time to adjust to the new you, that's for sure!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
