3 weeks post op and depressed.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I dont know what is going on with me but I regret having the surgery and don't care about my waight anymore, i mean why should I live in fear that I will never be able to eat normaly again, what if when I get to solid food I will never be able to swallow whithout suffering???

I can feel the way down of liquids when I swallow, and when I take a big sip of Water it hurts, I mean what if the surgeon did my sleeve wrong, I cant even imagine going from surgery to another like other unfortunate people who ended up suffering and for what????

Why should i loose my hair and got bold and ugly???????

Guys please help, I am sooooo depressed :'(

Your feelings are quite normal and common at this point. If you will go back and read some posts in the Post Op section you'll see that a whole lot of people feel the same way. You will get through it, yes you will eat and drink without it hurting very soon, and yes you do care about your weight. If you didn't you would not have chosen surgery as your option. You have to expect that both physical changes will continue for some time and you will learn to adapt and overcome. Give yourself time to adjust and heal. Trust me it's worth it.

I'm also 3-wks post op and not loving life. I have very little discomfort unless I take too big a swallow of something (my own fault). My biggest frustration is that I'm not losing weight. I lost 10 lbs the first 7 days and since then nothing. Here I am 3wks post op and I've only lost 10 lbs. I hear other people at 3wks lost 20+ lbs. I try not to compare myself but jeeze I'm bumbed. I'm logging every bite (range between 800 - 900 calories/day) and every sip of Water (40-60 oz/day) and every bit of exercise (walking about 2 miles every other day). Oh, another crazy thing is the lovely acid reflux I have every time I eat (never had that before - yummy!). And, when I drink Water, Soup, or any liquid, my internal plumbing likes to grunt, groan, and gurgle until air bubbles come up as burps. I can stifle the burps but I can't control the other noises and my co-workers are noticing and giving looks. Yup, so I'm there with ya on the frustration platform.

I'm also 3-wks post op and like you I'm not loving life (yet). I don't have the same discomfort issues that you have (unless I take too big a swallow of something, which is my own fault). I know a lot of these issues we're facing now will go away in time but right now it's frustrating to go through them. My biggest frustration is that I'm not losing weight. I lost 10 lbs the first 7 days and since then nothing. Here I am 3wks po and I've only lost 10 lbs. I hear other people at 3wks lost 20+ lbs. I try not to compare myself but jeeze I'm really bumbed. You could just have described me! I am almost 2 weeks post op and other than the acid reflux (doc said to take Prilosec for 3 months to keep acid down and the stomach heals).

I lost 7#'s the first week after surgery. I am getting in at least 60g of Protein. I'm drinking 60+ oz of Water. I eat Soup (tomato mainly) - and I can eat the entire can - I didn't think I would be able to.

I haven't lost any #'s the last week. I feel like I didn't even have surgery!

I'm hoping when I get to the pureed stage that I will fill up with small amounts.

I'm not depressed - I'm just concerned that I'm not doing enough of something or too much of another; I know about the 3 week stall but I haven't heard of a less than 2 week stall! :/

Not sure how you are able to consume 800-900 calories. For months 0-3 I think I was 400-500 tops.

I am 9 weeks post op and I promise it gets better! At first it hurt to drink Water and I could track exactly where that water was in my esophagus all the way down to my stomach. Now, I am able to eat out at restaurants(not much) but I am not scared I'm going to overdue it and throw up. You will get to a point where it is not the topic of discussion all the time. Hang in there!!

Hang in there. I'm 10 months out and had two bouts of sadness. I regretted the surgery, was afraid, had no energy, lost hair...was just funky. That has all gone away and I feel great. You're going through a lot emotionally, physically and mentally. You'll pull through this! ????????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
