Hey Y'all,

I'm really hoping that this forum will prove to be beneficial in helping to guide me through my journey. Since turning 40 (I'm now 50) I have been consistently gaining 10 pounds per year. Easy math now has me about 100 pounds overweight and completely unhappy in my own skin. Not to mention the toll it has taken on my body. I have severe joint pain, difficulty breathing and my labs are starting to go in the wrong direction. No matter what I do my weight just keeps going up :(

I made the decision several months ago to take the first step. After doing some research I'm thinking that the sleeve is the way for me to go. I have 10 days until my consult and I'm so excited!! I've had several "signs" that have me feeling really good about taking this step!

I am completely open to any help I can get to help me through this transition in my life.

Looking forward to hearing from you!!

Smiles,

Jodi

Hi Jodi,

I am pre-op for the gastric sleeve and going through the testing etc. I went to a seminar back in July, went for a consultation in December and planned with my surgeon's office to aim for June 29 when I have time off from work. I have been cleared by psych, the pulmunologist, and the cardiologist. My last big test is coming up on May 3, the endoscopy. I have met with the nutritionist three times and the surgeons office three times as well. My insurance has cleared me due to co-morbidities such as sleep apnea, diabetes and high blood pressure. My joints ache too. I am carrying around 175 extra lbs at least and it is time. I want to feel healthy and able to move. I am 46 years old.

Every single doctor that I have met with has been supportive and kind. I used to fear doctors because I was afraid that I was being judged. These doctors want to help me get better including my primary care doctor. Find doctors that treat you like that. I know that I am going to have to work hard but I am excited. I wish you well on your journey.

Hey! My consult is on the 28th! I'm about 90% sure I'll get the sleeve, but I won't make my final decision until after I talk to the surgeon next week. NEXT WEEK!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
