smashley296 26 Posted April 17, 2016 Does anyone know if it's ok to continue the Optifast after surgery? I'm having a really hard time finding a Protein Powder I can stomach and I didn't mind the optifast. I have a whole case left. What are your thoughts? Renkoss 420 Posted April 17, 2016 I don't see why not? It is a Protein shake and you can tolerate it, I'd say go for it.
pierper 4 Posted April 19, 2016 I was told Optifast has too many calories and not recommended after surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
wheezysmom 146 Posted April 19, 2016 Definitely talk to your nutritionist and/or Doctor. I was in the same boat, none of the Protein Shakes were sitting on my stomach and the only one that was even sort of working was Optifast but it has a lot of sugar. When I told the PA that Optifast was working she didn't like the sugar content but was willing to compromise because it had the Protein that I needed. Good luck to you! smashley296 26 Posted April 19, 2016 Thanks everyone. After I posted this I really read the nut facts and was shocked at the amount of carbs/sugar. I've decided I will only use it on days when I absolutely can't stomach anything else. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Renkoss 420 Posted April 19, 2016 Sorry. I didn't realize that something that is designed to help a person loose weight would be so high in carbs and sugar. I would never had said yes that it would be okay! Just shows you really have to read your labels. I use Premier because it has such low carbs and sugars. Good Luck. KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 19, 2016 Reading labels is a must - what you expect to be good for you often times is not. Some of the Protein Shakes have as much or more sugar than a snickers bar! Alot of "fat-free" foods are worse for you than full or 1/2 fat option. If you can't tolerate shakes - try finding Protein Water (no sugar/no fat) and see if that's better.
