Just tried eating egg beaters ? Why so painful?

Recommended Posts

I had egg beaters at about 10 days, made a small omelette, and enjoyed it. As with everything, you need to watch your portions closely to avoid discomfort/nausea of course, and chew-chew-chew, but for me the egg beaters were fine.

It sounds like you are still having a fair amount of inflammation/swelling in your stomach, restricting the flow of things it. Stick to liquids and sloppier soft things for a while longer and try it again in maybe a week. This is just one of the big variables between different people as they recover from surgery - some may need to stick to liquids (and even those may be fairly restricted for a while for some,) while others will have little inflammation and restriction to liquids. Scrambled (real) eggs and yogurt were no problem for me in the hospital, and even boiled eggs the first week, while my wife had a hard time downing the Protein Drinks for a while - both are within the normally expected range of results the first few weeks out.

Wow, I couldn't have egg beaters for 4 weeks. I tried at 2 weeks and got really sick. I was fine by 6 weeks, but it took awhile before it wouldn't make me nauseous.

It's crazy because I was told when I left the hospital that I could do all stage 3 foods. I guess everybody is different

There is a difference between what you are allowed to try and what you can actually tolerate. I think some of the conservative food plans are based in large part upon experience of people who have gone before. If you can't eat it now, wait a while and try again. Go slow and try one new food at a time.

9 months out, eggs are still a toss up with me. They were the first thing I had after liquids and it was painful.

They give me a lot of gas and it seems to be right in my stomach.

If something bothers you just skip it, there are other food options

I was on all liquids for 2 weeks. I had my sleeve done on March 10th and I'm on soft foods now, eggs were ok week 3 puréed only.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
