MrsKTS 19 Posted April 17, 2016 How much time did everyone take off from work post op? I'm hoping to return to work within 2 weeks of my surgery, I hope that gives me enough time to heal. I drive approximately 40 minutes to and from work each day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Elle09 157 Posted April 17, 2016 I am getting sleeved on 28 April 2016 and plan to take 2 weeks off. That is what my physician recommends due to low energy and the dietary needs initially. I see where people have taken between 2 - 4 weeks and a few less than that. I am curious to know myself from others. KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 17, 2016 My Dr recommended 4 weeks at least but said alot of people go back after 2 weeks. He said if I can take the 4 that you have time to heal and it's much easier to deal with the post op diet and meal planning.
B_D 54 Posted April 17, 2016 My surgery is scheduled for April 26th and I requested 2 weeks, I am hoping that is enough as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Barry W 336 Posted April 17, 2016 I went back after two weeks and worked shortened days at first - around 6 hours the first week back. Thought that was just about right with the way I felt I have a desk job and also commute at least an hour each way.
MrsKTS 19 Posted April 17, 2016 Ok, so it seems as if 2 weeks should be enough time. That's the time frame my surgeon recommended as well. My surgery is tomorrow! I'm a ball of nerves! 2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 17, 2016 My doc said most pople take two weeks. I wanted to take four (I have extended sick leave at work) and as it happens, I'm VERY glad I did. I had a rough first couple weeks postop and I wouldn't have been able to return after two weeks. Last week was my first week back. Desk job, one hour each way commute. I only work from the office three days a week, the other two from home. I needed a nap after work every day last week.

2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 17, 2016 I had some extra swelling around my hiatal hernia repair and had to go back in the hospital cause I couldn't drink anything for a few days. Then after that I still had trouble with anything but Clear liquids for another week or so. Once that was resolved things got better. I do notice that the fatigue decreases as I'm able to get more calories in. My doc wants me to get in 600-800/day at this stage. I haven't made 800 yet, but I'm feeling better at around 700 than I did at around 600.
