How much time did everyone take off from work post op? I'm hoping to return to work within 2 weeks of my surgery, I hope that gives me enough time to heal. I drive approximately 40 minutes to and from work each day.

I am getting sleeved on 28 April 2016 and plan to take 2 weeks off. That is what my physician recommends due to low energy and the dietary needs initially. I see where people have taken between 2 - 4 weeks and a few less than that. I am curious to know myself from others.

My Dr recommended 4 weeks at least but said alot of people go back after 2 weeks. He said if I can take the 4 that you have time to heal and it's much easier to deal with the post op diet and meal planning.

My surgery is scheduled for April 26th and I requested 2 weeks, I am hoping that is enough as well.

I went back after two weeks and worked shortened days at first - around 6 hours the first week back. Thought that was just about right with the way I felt I have a desk job and also commute at least an hour each way.

Ok, so it seems as if 2 weeks should be enough time. That's the time frame my surgeon recommended as well. My surgery is tomorrow! I'm a ball of nerves! Thanks for your responses!

My doc said most pople take two weeks. I wanted to take four (I have extended sick leave at work) and as it happens, I'm VERY glad I did. I had a rough first couple weeks postop and I wouldn't have been able to return after two weeks. Last week was my first week back. Desk job, one hour each way commute. I only work from the office three days a week, the other two from home. I needed a nap after work every day last week.

Thank you for your response. What was happening the first couple of weeks, if you don't mind me asking.

I had some extra swelling around my hiatal hernia repair and had to go back in the hospital cause I couldn't drink anything for a few days. Then after that I still had trouble with anything but Clear liquids for another week or so. Once that was resolved things got better.

I do notice that the fatigue decreases as I'm able to get more calories in. My doc wants me to get in 600-800/day at this stage. I haven't made 800 yet, but I'm feeling better at around 700 than I did at around 600.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
