miss_smiles 192 Posted May 18, 2016 Just an update for whoever wants to know. I had the surgery on March 28th and I went to a festival this past weekend. I ended up doing Molly and was 100% fine i just stayed hydrated. It honestly felt the same as it did pre-surgery. I also drank a lot (6-8 drinks) non carbonated Smirnoff filled with sugar (unfortunately) and was fine as well. The only thing was it hit me faster, and less alcohol got me drunk (also could of been because I did not eat). I also tried wine and was fine with that. A sip of beer did not sit well bc of the carbonation. I also ended up smoking about 2 packs of cigarettes in 2 days ( i was a smoker pre-op). But overall, I did not get sick, I did not throw up, I am back to normal, although it took my body a day to recover (which would of been the same pre -op). Everyone's body is different so please don't think you will have the same results. Just wanted to share my experience. The only bad thing was that I didn't really eat for two days trying to counteract the calories from the alcohol, and it messed up my weight loss progress and set me back about a week - because in addition I didn't make it to the gym. My ending point is, I had tons of fun, and I do not regret anything but for me, I will def stay away from that stuff again for awhile to continue on my weight loss journey! 1 christinafin reacted to this

Good for you for focusing on having fun as opposed to your health! Being healthy is so overrated.

BelgianGuy 350 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) For those interested: almost three months and a half post-op, I sometimes enjoy a bit of weed with some friends, happens like twice a month. I tried one month post-op and it went well (sometimes vaporizer, sometimes from a joint). It feels nice, I just keep some cool Water on the side, but weed has never caused me munchies, just thirst. I had a glass of wine two weeks ago as well, I took my time and sipped it slowly, also had Water on the side in case of unwanted dehydratation. Nothing else to add, you guys be the judge of yourselves. Edited May 18, 2016 by BelgianGuy
coco777 17 Posted May 18, 2016 420 friendly here and i like my drinks as well. Smoked two weeks post op and loved it. My only concern is will it give you munchies & will you be able to handle that or will you want to binge. As far as alcohol. I've only had one drink cuz I'm still healing so I have no reference there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

charley27 164 Posted May 19, 2016 I can't really see any doctor saying "yes, do digs and drink after surgery"... Or at all. I think asking here or any other forum is the best way to get answers Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

PLEZ 76 Posted October 5, 2016 I run a drug and alcohol facility. You are at risk for developing a compulsion to use since you are trying to manage a compulsion to eat. I see this all the time. You are at risk. If it's not a priblem.. it should be easy to walk away from it. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

fd319 86 Posted October 5, 2016 I've been reading a lot about post opp nausea here and would actually assume marijuana would help ease that. It is used medicinally for nausea and prescribed by doctors for that reason. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App I'm actually have some really bad post op nausea and I've been proscribed some pill that doesn't work, but smoking marijuana is the only thing that takes it away. No other side effects from it. No munchies or anything like that. I'm 2 weeks post op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
higher 966 Posted October 6, 2016 Marijuana and ginger have both been my go to nausea cures. I'm really prone to motion sickness and it's worse when there's not much food in your stomachs. Pot works immediately and ginger takes a little longer. When I was in Colorado a store there sold a medical marijuana ginger tincture that was ideal. Not enough pot to get you high but it worked on the nausea. Wish I had bought a second vial because I used the first one up.
