Newbie and BM question after 9 days of DS

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am a newbie here just starting to get familiar with the forums. I can't seem to find the DS forum on the app, so posting my question here.

Anyway I am 9 days post op from DS and so far everything has gone great and easier than expected except the some bathroom issues. Have been having quite a bit of diarrhea which is mostly just Water, but it doesn't seem to be letting up. What has been your experience with this? I was on Protein shakes and Water and just now starting some purée foods. I have found the Popsicles make it worse so I avoid them. Just wanted to see what you all have experienced. I'm hoping this isn't going to be the permanent bathroom experience going forward.

Thanks.

In my case, I only had the runs once, while still in the hospital, after a Barium Meal Leak Test.

Otherwise, Constipation rules during my different food phases. I have found a helpful way of dealing with it.

If this was happening to me on a regular basis (diarrhoea), I'd be calling my Surgeon ASAP.

Dehydration is a big concern, and even though I did not have the runs, I got very dehydrated once with nasty and scary symptoms.

Another cause could be some food intolerances, or even a stomach bug.

So, please call your surgical team and get some relief.

Good luck.

My experience with the bathroom issue is..........and still is at 6weeks.... If I eat or drink anything too fast. I've learned this the hard way. So..just slow way down !!!!

Hopefully you are not taking any laxatives or stool softeners. I used the Kaopectate liquid when I experienced diarrhea a few times and found that very helpful. It went away on it's own after the first couple of weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
