55% gastric sleeve!?

Recommended Posts

You just made me giggle, sorry. My full service/full price comment was in jest, but that said, I can't imagine committing to such a major surgery and only going halfway with it. I just don't see the point. :D

What I find interesting about this, is regardless where we start, we all (well most) eventually get to where you are starting at. So why is a full sleeve ok for me when I got to a BMI of 32, but not for you? At that point we are the same distance away from a healthy BMI. I guess I don't really see the difference then for such a drastically different size sleeve. It seems there would still be a struggle to avoid overeating.

I'm sure glad my sleeve was the normal size, because I when I got to a BMI of 32, I still had 60 pounds to go. I'm now down to 19 pounds to goal, and my sleeve still reminds me when I eat too much long before I can do too much damage. I was a binge eater, and now I physically CAN NOT consume a large quantity of food. If you still have some of the stretchy part of your stomach left, you will likely still be able to keep eating after you are full. That would be a disaster for me. I still love food, and if something is really tasty, I sometimes want to keep eating when I'm full, but I can't fit any more in my tiny tummy. I needed that at a BMI of 43, 32, now 25, and will need that help for the rest of my life.

I'm confident with the help of my sleeve I'll never go back to my old ways. I don't think I would be nearly as confident if I had a larger stomach, because I would still be relying on willpower, and I just don't have it in me. I know that about myself.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter. Please let us know what you decide to do!

I was 35-37 BMI dr removed 80-85%.... I would not go thru this for only 50% it's a long life and having to do it again would be worse than losing and extra 10 pounds or something. Obviously my own opinion. I am only two weeks in and it's a great life this past week. If you have already talked to two different DRs it maybe that this is the only route for you in the US. I went to Tijuana awesome experience total of 5 people I know went to same practice. Approx 4k

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
