While getting dressed a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a hard lump in the sternum area between my breasts. I had my 3 month post op visit coming up, so I figured maybe it was from my hiatal hernia repair and I'd ask about it at my post op visit. I went yesterday and told her about the bump. She said that wouldn't be from my hernia, so she'd better take a look at it. The hard bump is my sternum, I just had so much fat tissue there for so long that I had forgotten what it felt like. I practically had myself signed up for chemo after reading WebMD! The internet can be the devil lol

Too funny! I did the exact same thing when mine started showing, I was shocked at how big that bump actually is.

Are your hip bones or tail bone sticking out yet? That's next!

I kinda freaked out till I realized what that was on me. I love being able to see me come out from all the fat now. Having hip bones is a foreign concept to me and now they are there too. The only part I am not likeing is the tailbone pain.

Amen to all of these. Just yesterday, was feeling my sternum carefully to make sure it was not something other than bone. Last week, had to sit in a metal folding chair and my rear end got sore from the bones hitting metal... and hips, actually have hips! The other thing, as a 65 year old, pre-WLS I looked alot younger because, like a baby, my face was round and the skin tight. Now, not so young looking, but much better shape which compensates.

The sternum thing sorta freaked me out when it began showing up, too.

Dang thing is pronounced.......but it's just bone/cartilage that was always there....just now not as padded with fat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
