When can I start running?

Recommended Posts

I had vsg on 3/16 and I'm sick of walking.. I'm ready to run on my treadmill and outside. When can I start? Incisions are healed. Eating solids just fine. Nutrition is on point, and my sleeve and I are loving each other. We are finding balance and embracing our new life together... but I need to step up the fitness side of things!! ????

Wooooo Nelly slow it down. Your body is healing inside as well. Trust me I was just where you were and ended up back at the hospital. Take your time and ease into the running. It will happen but don't rush it.

I waited three months before I started to run its important that you are able to drink enough Water to help you with your runs. You don't want to pass out because your dehydrated. Give it time you'll get there

If you are ready, most treadmills allow you to increase difficulty while still walking - just use the incline feature - this makes a big difference in my experience, but doesn't expose you to the pounding of running.

My surgeon told me I could walk as tolerated and run as soon as I felt up to it just not to over do it so I started running a little 5 days post op, but I recommend asking your surgeon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
