What happens in hospital before surgery?

Recommended Posts

I remember before my endoscopy waiting for a long time and being cold and alone watching my vitals... Then all of a sudden, very fast, all these people were plugging things on and around me before I went to sleep.

Is it like this?

For me, people were in and out of the room. Taking vitals, helping me get ready, explaining what was going to happen. Seeing if I had questions. In and out the entire time. Nurses, helper, the anesthesiologist. I was in there for about 1.5 hours before the actual surgery. They even brought me a warm blanket when I felt a little cold. It went super quick.

Thank you!!! Could you have a friend or family member with you? Or a book?

My mom went with me. Once I checked in, they took me back to get prepped. I was the second person that day so I didn't really have to wait very long.

I learned a while back to request a preop sedative like Valium.

Every surgeon I've asked this of granted my wish.

I'd get one to take before leaving the house and one to take upon arrival .

Sure makes it a much more pleasant and relaxing preop session.
