Congrats :) My husband was just approved quickly by BCBS Fed. It's a good feeling, isn't it? Next up is me. Gulp! Not sure what you mean about a pre op test?

Hello I went through BCBS and was approved on 5 April 2016. My surgery is on 28 April 2016 and I am currently on my 4th day of the pre-op liquid diet. All of my pre-op tests were completed during the 3 month weight management phase which consisted of sleep study, cardiology clearance, upper endoscopy, psych clearance, medical clearance from primary care physician, abdominal ultrasound, chest X-ray and bloodwork.

I have a preop visit scheduled for this Wednesday where we will set the actual surgery date but I'm not sure what all is included in that pre-op appointment!

Hello . Congratulations on your journey. I have BCBS through my job. I am fairly new to this website but have seen some conversations regarding financing.

Hi! Thanks for the reply! I don't know how to make a Profile yet!

How is your prep going? Is your sleeve done robotically by chance? I'd really like that...less pain and faster healing.

Right now the pre-op diet is going pretty good. I have not really struggled with it and am pretty motivated to stick with it. I am allowed 4 Protein shakes, 2 Protein Bars, 3 servings of sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles, and 1 banana or a cup of milk per day. The banana is the best part of my day.

I will be having laparoscopic surgery.

@@seeyalaterNOT I'm also self pay at mayo Clinic. I have insurance, but my Aetna plan doesn't cover anything toward Weightloss surgery. If you get insurance, you would need to meet the insurance plans requirements before your surgery and that may differ than Mayo's requirements. I'm thankful that my insurance has paid for my consult visits but having to pay $19,000 is going to hurt but the best money I've ever spent!

@@seeyalaterNOT I've asked that too. I've "heard" that it's a flat rate. That it includes surgery, hospital stay, doctor's in hospital visits. I too want to make sure exactly what that includes. I am hoping to have my gallbladder removed while I'm under, and if I do, how much extra is that? Will Aetna pay for that part? These are still some of my questions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
