One Week Post Op: What was your weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 8th April, 2016 and today, one week post op, I've lost 18.5 lbs since.

277 lbs (day of surgery) - 258 lbs (one week post op) - Can everyone post their one week out figures here if you remember?

I'm not sure my weight loss is safe, I have a follow up appointment with the Surgeon tomorrow. So I'll know then.

I lost 11 lbs the first 2 days, at one week at 20 pounds, then it slowed down quite a bit but still 10 or more pounds a month for several months. After 2 years had been maintaining a 55 pound loss, didn't lose any weight for months, and now at 3 years I am at a 70+ pound loss.

@@missricki Me too. But I think the docs aren't gonna allow weight training until after a month or two I think.

At 11 days postop I weighed exactly the same as I did on surgery day.

By 9 months I was down 98 pounds (10 below goal) and at 28 months I'm still there.

Just remember that how much you lose the first few months and ESPECIALLY the first week has absolutely nothing to do with your long term success.

Mine has been much crappy.

1 week post op- 258 to 246.5

2 weeks post 249.5 (that's right a three pound gain despite eating exactly on plan, averaging 400 calories and doing 40 minutes to an hour of walking or biking 6 days a week).

We shall see what week three says.

My NUT and surgeon warned there is big stall that happens happens around week three, and another around week 7, week 12, and every few months.

Edited to say I know...

Embrassing the stall

Everyone loses at different paces

Trust the program

Don't be a slave to the scale

Inches gone, doesn't mean pounds gone

Check your fluids, check your Protein...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
