When do I start feel human again

Recommended Posts

I promise it gets better! It ALWAYS sucks right in the beginning, and we all have that period of "what the hell did I get myself into? Why did I do this to myself?!" Then, six months later, a year later, 5 years later, and you're at your goal weight, you feel amazing, you're living your life and you're happy, and you have no regrets, and you barely remember this short, miserable period.

Gotta slog through the crap to get to the good stuff. Hang in there! :)

As for the when, well, that's different for everyone. I took longer than most. It was almost two months before I felt even remotely normal, and only now at almost 8 months can I go the whole day without even remembering I had surgery. Then again, I had a couple months where I was anemic, so I was tired all the time and sort of miserable. But that's over now, and I'm actually enjoying my life and feeling great, finally. Keep in mind that it can take an entire year to fully heal inside, so it's not that crazy to think it could take that long to adjust to this HUGE life-altering change. Give yourself some time and in a year you won't even recognize yourself or your life. Feel free to message me or friend me or anything you want if I can help in any way. :)

I'm 10 days out (had RNY on the 4th), and other than some extra sleepiness, I've been feeling pretty normal for the past few days. I have some pain still when bending down or anything that compresses my tummy, but mostly I'm doing well!

It slowly gets better. I reached my happy state at 6 months when all the problems both big and small seemed to melt away.

Aw ambernicole, sorry you are having such a bad time with this. I also had surgery on Monday (4/11) and the gas pains are horrible. I'm sitting here right now with so much gas rumbling around it's not even funny. My belly is sore, but a little less than yesterday. I took a shower today and washed my hair and that made me feel more human. I've been attempting to get up and walk around more so the gas begins to work its way out. I think that pain is worse than the actual surgery pain! I also have a situation where I have to be very careful about passing the gas because sometimes its not just gas ! That's terrible.

Hang in there friend. Things will get better. Be sure to walk around as much as possible, get in your liquids, and do whatever they told you to do while in the hospital. Things will get better. You've made it through to the other side and things will get better. I'm praying for your recovery sweetie. Hugs.

Ambernicole, it will get better. You must walk, walk, walk to get that gas moving and out. I too was miserable. It took all my energy to get out of bed and up walking. And you must follow all instructions for keeping hydrated and get the Protein needed to heal. It took me a full month before I was feeling ready to get out and about. It is now two months post RNY and I'm at the gym every day riding the bike 4 miles. I never thought it would happen but it did, the energy returned. Recovery from major surgery is no picnic. Our insides have been re-routed and this takes time to heal. Take it one day at a time, don't look too far ahead, follow the plan and you will survive this. Keep a positive attitude!!

Those first few weeks are tough. I was tired all the time and sore. I also discovered that part of my gas issues were dairy related. The gas and gurgles got worse when I ate anything with dairy in it, including my Protein shakes! Once I switched to Fairlife milk, the gas and rumbles got much better and I felt more human. I don't know if that will help you, but it was helpful for me. You are early days. It will get better. Hang in there.

What you're going through is totally normal. I felt the same way and ended up calling my physician. He too confirmed that it is normal. I can tell you that I felt 10 times better on day 8. I also stopped taking pain meds during the day on day 7 and only took them at night. You just went through a major surgery. Do rest, you need to, also be sure to get in your Protein and fluids. You will feel better sooner than you think.

I agree with everyone about walking. It's tiring and sometimes difficult but it DOES help. I walked around the house. I didn't have a problem with gas pain after day 3 and I truly believe it was because I walked. One week post up I was up to walking about 6000 steps/day.

I'm one month post op and I still get tired. I think it is a combination of recouping from a major sx and our bodies adjusting to the drastic decrease in calories. I eat about 500-600 calories/day but I'm up to 10,000 steps

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
