Men measuring their manliness against other men's manliness?

Recommended Posts

Are any of the men game for discussing this one?

A few words -- a cowboy reference -- of an exchange between two male characters, lawyer David Lee and investigator Jason Crouse, in "The Good Wife" fascinated me, as I'd never given thought to whether men might give each other the once-over either out of curiosity or another, non-sexual reason. The few words are funny, too and, to those who know the show, surprising. I'll refrain from describing the characters so that anyone who doesn't watch the show can make of them what they will.

I hope that only men will post, but women are more than welcome to read.

P.S. Sorry for omitting this earlier -- The exchange begins just about 6:45 (but you probably have to get past the commercial before reaching the episode itself).

Don't know the show nor the actors, but I guess she is talking about a dick sizing competition. Why do we do it? I'd like to say it has something to do with mens natural competitive nature, but honestly it's because generally speaking are childish and insecure. " I've got a bigger dick so I can satisfy a woman better than you" kind of stupid shit.

Or perhaps she is talking about manliness in the machismo term. Tough SOB's that work hard and embody what men perceive as "mans man". E.G. Clint Eastwood, Jack Palance... Those are more like role models or personal heroes. I don't see a problem in that personally. Looking up to a person who embodies qualities you wished were more prevalent in yourself or society in general.

Yep, that's why things exploded with the "small hands" fiasco in the GOP presidential primary. You don't want to be the kid in middle school with a micro-penis.

But what's really important is balls: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/active/mens-health/11461172/Size-matters-the-benefit-of-having-big-balls.html

You can tell who has the smaller package by catcalls (any lady who'd ever thought a guy is compensating by being loud is right) http://www.aol.com/article/2015/10/22/science-reveals-alleged-connection-between-catcalling-and-testic/21252630/

But checking out package size has a long history: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2011/04/01/bringing-back-the-codpiece/

@@OKCPirate -- I thought I'd included the time marker and have edited the OP. For you, it's about 6:45.

'll have you and *@BigViffer know that a size competition is of no Earthly interest to me. I certainly hope my interests don't run to mindlessness. No, it's about self-image, feeling comfortable in one's own skin and knowing one's self.

P.S. Betty White can get away with anything. It's the sweet voice and the dimples. She rocks.

P.P.S How is it that you post something about the antediluvian, seen-too-many-1940's-movies notion of women going to the loo in committees and the women respond with seriousness? Perhaps I shouldn't have expected better, as I omitted a marker to the scene in the TV show. You've got it now. You're on!

Couldn't get the link to work.

I know the show you are referring to, but have never watched an episode.

Do men see each other and notice qualities or mannerisms ? Sure.

Not really sure the real question here.....I'd probably grasp it best if I could see the link. Do you know what the episode is titled ?

Was there a question anywhere in the original post or just some inane jibber-jabber?

I'd suggest that if you're going to ask for the input and perspective of a particular group, tailor your phrasing to suit said group...

Of course, I'm generalising and am possibly over-stepping the boundaries of my bro-dom, but as a man/male/bloke/guy/fella, I'd be much more inclined to reply if I knew what you were talking about...

@@WLSResources/ClothingExch - Oh, do we check out the clothes and "look" of another guy? Yeah, but I do it all the time for both sexes. Your clothes are your uniform.

If I saw this creep, I can't help but judge him harshly.

If I saw this creep, I can't help but judge him harshly.

That's about it. When I saw the scene, I wondered whether men do that, as I've never heard it discussed. It seemed that it could turn into an interesting discussion, perhaps going in a few directions. I seem to be alone there.

As to the other, that's part way between your funnybones side and your gut response, right? My impulse-wish goes beyond judging in such case, but violence makes me actively ill. I can't guess how volcanically ill I'd be from violence at my own hand.

I feel as if I have stumbled into a weird alternative plane where nothing makes sense.

Well, it really does when you suspend belefe that

WLSResources/ClothingExch

The problem startent when WLSReources/ClothingEchah didn't really explain that she wasn't talking about. Two of us thought she was talking about guys looking at other guys packages. However after the clarification it was clear she was wondering if guys were like women and were as judgmental, especially with clothes. But she didn't give us enough info to realize that that is what she was looking for. So we as guys started doing the old "penis comparison thing" Opps, our bad, but no mia copa here. I is what I is.

You have no one to blame but @@bayougirlmrsc who promised "oral exams" Look it up for yourself. ;-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
