The Re-NEW Start to My Journey

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

My name is Dana, I am 20 years old and I am getting the sleeve done hopefully late May/early June. Last year, I was supposed to have the sleeve surgery in August. However, suddenly my approved insurance coverage was then unapproved. It was devastating. But, I tried my best to eat healthy and begin healthier habits, anyway. Then, earlier this year my mother found out that our insurance is covering the surgery and I jumped back into it. In fact, she's getting the Bypass done next month!

Anyway, I have yet to schedule my surgery date, but everything I need is done, now just waiting for my appointment next week Tuesday to set a date! Eeek!

Right now, I think I'm:

- 255 lbs

- 5'6" tall

- BMI: (guesstimate) 42.2

I researched everything possible about this process the first time around, and I've got to say I'm more sure than I've ever been about anything. I'm not nervous at all, but I'm anxious to embark on a new life. One of the big reasons I need this surgery is because I have a bulging disc that gives me great pain. Unfortunately, back surgery isn't an option for me, but my doctors have told me that the only thing I can do now is lose weight. The problem is I'm in too much pain to be able to really workout, thus no weight loss.

This surgery is the leap that will help me not only become healthy and able, but change my pain forever.

I'll try to keep anyone interested up to date. I'm super excited and can't wait to be one of the beautiful people who post their success and before/after pics.

God bless

-Dana

@@danaadoo - welcome young lady!

I wish you the best of luck with the surgery date. Start working that pre-op diet now just in case they can get you in earlier. Make sure your possible weight loss doing the pre-op won't affect your coverage.

This will be the best thing ever for you. I was in so much pain from so many health issues and my pain level is almost gone. Just had my blood work done and everything is going down. I can tell you how happy that makes me. Maybe in 6 months (next blood work) I can come off some of my meds, I already have been reduced on one. Good Luck!! We're here for you. And Good Luck to your mother.

Hello, my reasons are the same as yours. I had a car accident in February and was told that I have three herniated disc. Docs told me with my current weight it was going to be a longer time healing. My syrgery should be july or August.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
