Killian's Gastric Sleeve Journey

Recommended Posts

I'm so happy now that I'm like 5 weeks out and I get it now... like jersey jules said in a video and I realized the eating like a fat slob days are over with. There's no way to pile food in like how we did to get overweight. It's a amazing tool I feel very lucky to have.

Update 11/11/17: Happy Veteran's Day to me. :-)
We had a birthday party for one of my daughter's friends at our house.
This is what was out and I had NONE of it. The sleeve prevented me from even craving the junk food!
This surgery works. 20171110_174619.jpg

11/13/17..Phase change from all liquid to puree. Yuck. Gross. How the hell am I gonna get through this? Puree is just...yuck.
Luckily, I can have scrambled egg beaters, yogurt and smoothies. So gonna start making smoothies with my Ninja bullet and get through this stage.
The good news is I am down another 5.5 pounds and weigh 229.9. Yeah I know- 230..but 229 sounds better. :-)

Grilled chicken in a bag. I used Kirkwood. Was so light on my sleeve and it's very moist. Put that in the food processor. Weigh it out and add hummus or ricotta cheese... that was key for me on pureed foods. And eggs. Experiment.

Mashed avocado if you’re allowed. Twinge of lemon juice in it. It was actually pretty good.

Update: 12/1/17: Weight: 220.. down from 260 for a total of 40 pounds lost. Thanksgiving was...interesting. I ate some turkey and stuffing and mash potatoes, but what was different was I ate very little of it and felt full much quicker. I feel as if I didn't miss out on anything. I had a tiny sliver of pie and could not even finish it.

Update: 12/13/17 Weight..219

I had my final post op follow up yesterday and was cleared to eat meats and "regular" food. But I think I'll stick to the fish, and puddings and jellos, and keep the steaks to a minimum. Doc said everything looked great and I am right on track. The next challenge is Christmas and New Year's Eve parties!

Dr. Kwon is very mild mannered, matter of fact kind of guy. He is awesome and my surgery went very well.

Update: 3/13/19 wow it has been over a year since I posted??

I weighed myself this morning and it was 198. I finally made it to ONDERLAND!! ok, barely made it, but I'll take it.

Had a bit of a set back. I gained weight over this past holiday season, but dusted off the books my Nut gave me and went right back to eating well and have lost the 17 pounds I gained. My last post surgery doc revealed that my sleeve grew by 50% and that is my fault. I am drinking and eating too fast. Gotta get to work on that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
