I'm almost to the end of my journey here--I have one scheduled weight check on Friday and then one more before they schedule surgery--and was wondering what you guys who have had surgery do for Vitamins? I've read so much my head is spinning.

I'd love to see some daily guidelines/brand recommendations from you guys who are old hats at this stuff!

Your doctors office should give you detailed requirements. It differs from doctor to doctor and also from patient to patient.

Good luck on your journey.

As the poster above said you will want to do what your dr says but for me I take two chewable flintstones complete Vitamins, two 500 mg chewable Bariatric Advantage calciums, a b complex that dissolves in my mouth, and a biotine every day. I space them out because you need two hours between the multi vit with Iron and the Calcium. I also space out the calciums by two hours because only up to 500 mg can be absorbed at a time.

The sleeve does not produce the malabsorption that the bypass does. As a result you can take normal Vitamins. I use Centrum chewables.

Start out with those or similar ones and only if you labs come back abnormal should you then consider expensive bariatric Vitamins. Just my opinion, of course.

I take B12, Iron, and Biotin...when I remember, lol. Multivitamins make me sick. I'm 2.5 years out and I had labs done at 1.5 years and 2.5 years and all of my blood values are fine. Eventually you just learn to take whatever works best for you and sometimes it takes a little trial and error.

Thanks for the feedback. Of course I'll be chatting with my doctor on Friday about it but I just wanted to get some idea of what types of Vitamins are working for everyone else. I'd rather not go and buy a bunch of stuff that's just going to sit around in my cabinet if I don't have to and if Flintstone chewables are an alternative, that's awesome to know!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
