Weight loss Pause

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on March 21, 2016. I started losing weight (20 lbs before surgery) pretty quickly each week. Of course I was super excited. Now in the past week, I only lost one pound. I'm barely eating (maybe 450 calories per day total. Do you think that my sleeve procedure isn't going to work for me? Has anyone else experienced this and began to loose weight again?

Very typical. It's called the three week stall, the average time people experience their first weight loss stall. You need to eat more calories though.

Thank you, Proud2BMe. Its really hard to eat a lot more than that. I gues as time goes on, I can tolerate more food. Do you know approximately how much time goes by before you lose weight again?

This is very normal.

None of us lose at a constant rate. We all experience periodic stalls, and most of us experience one about three weeks after surgery.

Just follow your program.

Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids.

Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed.

Exercise when cleared.

Stay off the scale.

And, Embrace the Stall!

You probably won't start losing again until you get your Protein and calories up. I'm losing slowly this week - I went back to work (increased calorie expenditure) and am only getting in about 600 calories a day. I'm supposed to be at 700-800.

But it will come off. A lot of people fear that they will be the lone outlier and that surgery won't work for them. They've been proven wrong. Really. Keep sipping!

Every stall is different. Some just last days. Others weeks. However, you need to realize there may be times you go a month or longer before you start losing again. I've known a couple of sleevers who went three months on a stall before. There's a few tricks you can try to see if you can break the stall but you really need to increase your calories, Protein and Water intake.

Proud2BMe, thank you. That really helps. I've only lost 1 pound this week. My scale either says I lost it or I gained it back. It keeps fluctuating. I'm not getting in a lot of calories but I'm trying to get them in.its difficult because I get full so quick now. Which is good and I am not complaining.

This was very frustrating for me too. So I'll call my doctor and they told me that for the first six weeks is about healing your stomach and your body is in Starvation mode they told me that once I started taking in calories that I would start losing weight. They said that after the liquid phase of the doubt I would be on a thousand to 1200 calorie diet. And that's when the weight loss begins.

Darima77 you had your surgery 1 day before me. I am also experiencing this 3rd week stall. So its comforting to find out this is a thing with a name. I also get full after two bites and it seems like new foods I try give me heartburn. But people on here tell me to hang in there this is all part of the process. Cheers to our success!

I was sleeved on 3/19 and had my stall last week. Eat properly, drink lots of Water, your body will jumpstart! And don't stop believing! (Cue journey)

PinkyPearly1908, I to am glad to know that someone is feeling what I'm feeling at this time after being sleeved. I have a hard time getting a lot of Water in each day. It seems, from other posts, that Water is essential for weight loss with the sleeve. I just need to sit under a waterfall with my mouth open I guess! Lol! It's so hard. Do you think that using crystal light or other sugar free drink mixes in your water is the same as clear water?

Absolutely - any non-caloric drink counts as your "water". Crystal Light, Decaffeinated Tea or coffee, Water with flavor drops, Protein Water.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
