Just started my 6 month supervised weight ins

Recommended Posts

After over 10 years of going from obese to morbid obese, developing type2 diabetes and all kind of achy joints, I finally am ready to start! I've done the info meeting, 1st consult with surgeon, 1st visit with pcp, and nutritionist. Scheduled the endoscopy and psych visit. Arranging the sleep study. Now it's a numbers game and waiting.

I'm struggling with evening/ night eating. Any suggestions for trying to curb the sweet and salty craving?

Sweet a Protein Drink. My favorite two are the ready made Premier Protein shakes and for really sweet the Atkins Royal dark chocolate Protein Shakes. You can freeze them if you wish and eat them like ice cream. As far as salty I made my own Edamame and flavored them with different seasoning, also baked chick-a-peas turn out really crunchy from the oven and you season them however you like. Those are just a few suggestions. You can find recipes online for both of those. Good luck!

A few salted almonds might do the trick for salty. I have celery with sour cream dip almost every night and I am trying to kick that habit before surgery. You could have a few olives or pickles too. I'm a salty Snacks at night.

Depending on the time of day......a cup of coffee with Splenda really helped cut out desires to snack.< /p>

Staying well hydrated was crucial. Lots and lots of Water. It simply helps me feel good....then and even more now.

Cut out sugary junk foods. That crap never satisfied my hunger, in fact it just made it come back worse in an hour.

Hard cheeses and some almonds along with some Tobasco ht sauce and I could kill hunger for hours and hours. Be careful, though.....stuff is calorie dense. By the 100 calorie bags of nuts and the single serving cubes of cheese and carefully monitor your intake.

Begin tracking your calorie intake....somewhere....somehow.....be it on myfitnesspal or simply on a note application on your cellphone. Track what you take in. Know the amounts.....OWN the amounts. Measure the amounts carefully. You can't fix what's broken if you don't closely examine it first.

Get on a treadmill or elliptical.....punch in your weight and begin exercising daily. Watch the calorie burn amount that is reported by the machine. It's not the final say so......but seeing how long and how much work it takes to burn off a candy bar will sicken you. You'll begin to think in different terms. Seeing and feeling how hard it is to burn off that crap will increase your levels of discipline IMMEDIATELY and this is crucial.

Losing weight, with or without weight loss surgery requires DISCIPLINE & EFFORT. Get to working on those right now and you'll breeze through the steps ahead of you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
