Can't look back, I'm not going that way

Recommended Posts

I had my vertical sleeve 4/2013. I did very well with it, so well that despite having PCOS, a history of infertility and being on 2 forms of birth control I found myself pregnant 12/2014. Again, did well. Gained 17lbs through the whole pregnancy and had a perfect 7lb baby. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within a month.

Then I injured my back at the end of February. I'm in therapy 3x a week, I can't do much of anything (including work) and I'm getting depressed. I KNOW I'm eating more, and I need to get back on track before I can't button my jeans :-( I have another month before they figure I'll be back to work. What do you do when you can't DO anything?

Oh gosh. That is tough. Maybe @@Djmohr can way in on this for you. She has terrible back / spine issues and unable to do much psychically either and still managed to lose. I'm only 10 months post-op, so I am not the best person to answer this but based on what I have seen from others - you might try doing liquid again for a few days to jump start the loss? You have done so well and come so far (and wow only 17 lbs baby weight?!) You know how to do this and you can totally get back your mojo. As you said, you won't look back. You got this!!

I am so sorry to hear you are having problems with your back. I have been through hell with mine and am still going through it.

In June I had to have a 3 level cervical fusion. When I found out I was terrified that I would screw up my goals. I knew what to expect from a recovery standpoint. Back problems are long and honestly never go away once you have them.

I have had a total of 6 back surgeries, 2 since June. In June I was at 210lbs with a goal of 165. I knew I would have to rely 100% on my diet if I wanted to hit my goals because exercise was very limited. I can walk but very short walks and I can do small basic exercises for my arms and legs. Some days I cannot do anything.

For me, I have to focus on a diet that delivers 70 grams of Protein, under 90 grams of carbs and less than 1200 calories if I want to continue to lose.

I have done it with diet. I am currently at 163lbs.

I am not sure where you are at with diet but that is what you likely need to change up. I would be happy to help if you want to pm me?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
