All the warnings I read about life after surgery nothing warned that your breath and pee would smell like death. I have been brushing my teeth, swirling mouth wash, flossing.... still death breath.

Any ideas?

Bad breath is sooooo embarrassing for me.

Sounds like you are in ketosis. You can try to mask things with altoids, drinking lots of Water, etc., but there really isn't anything you can do to stop it. The breath is caused by the chemical balance in your blood, and no amount of mouthwash or brushing your teeth is going to change that. It's a good thing -- it means that your body is burning through fat cells at an extremely high rate.

For most people, they have the death breath (and pee, and sometimes BO, etc.) for a few weeks, and then their body gets things a little straightened out even though you are still in ketosis, and your breath and so on improves. Just keep in mind that it's a sign of the wonderful work your body is doing and that it's going to be a small blip in the big scheme of things. It'll get better and in a few months you'll probably look back and laugh about what a big deal it seemed like :)

I google it, it said ketosis, but didn't say anything about going away. Okay, altoids, Water and patience. Check.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
