Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you

The #1 thing people probably don't know about me is that regardless of my writing style I'm actually a very nice person! ;) I just can't write worth a damn.

I collect antiquarian books mostly regarding medicine and Black Slavery. I have some books that are many hundreds of years old.

Always wanted to be an eye surgeon as I was growing up and then I realized that eye juice is gross. I still can't stand eye surgery.

And my sister refers to our "stoma's" as a stem. Heh... that makes me laugh. She thinks of it as a plant stem that provides nourishment and life.

Same here Wasa, I'm much nicer in real life than I think I sound. I'm nowhere near as opinionated and my first year or so online was just fight after fight after fight until I learned that I'm not always right and my opinion is just an opinion and that everbody is entitled to one - even if its different to mine.

I have eye phobia too. I have a condition called Map Dot Fingerprint Dystrophy - my cornea's are very dry and delicate and they rip very easily. Onset is usually in the mid 30's, it hit me at 37 and I had a year of awful periods of being unable to see and having to stay at home with my eyes shut for days on end till the rips healed. I could rip my cornea just by opening my eyes in the morning. I've had laser surgery on both eyes but now I freak when I see people rubbing their eyes, because I've learned not to do it.

Nana: Really sorry about your Mom and her diseases. My grandmother had Alzheimers and it is scary when you've witnessed it up close and personal. Practically everyone in my immediate family had or has late onset diabetes. That was a major reason for me getting the band too.

I appreciate your thoughts about me getting some counseling. I have no doubt that if I found a good one, it would be very helpful. I would really like to get off the Wellbutrin but the couple of times that I tried to gradually get off of it, the old really bad depression started settling back over me like a dark cloud.

Jachut and WasaBubble: I have the very same feelings about my posts sounding harsh. I really do not mean them to be harsh and I don't think I know everything although I'm pretty sure some people believe that I think I do. I love to participate here because I learn so much! And writing is therapy of a sort. I just wish I didn't sound so snotty. :phanvan

I have had eye surgery and it is creepy!! Mine was for an artificial tear duct. It doesn't work worth a hoot, but it is better than having no tear duct at all. People think I'm very emotional but it's just my eye tearing up. It's gotten to the point where I don't even realize sometimes that I'm crying. And you're so right, eye juice is yukee. :omg: That condition you have Jachut must be really awful and it makes my problem not seem so bad afterall!

I lost 110 pounds in a year, only to gain back 183 pounds two years later...

I held my grandma's hand while she died...

I once figured out the universe with my friend while on acid only to forget everything the next morning...

I saved my husband's life...

Meadowlark Lemon sang the words of the Globetrotter song to me in a church...

I've enjoyed reading this thread! :)

Well, with the name "musicalmomma" you can probably guess that I'm a musician. What you may not know is that I play guitar, sing, and write.

I have four daughters, no sons, and I like it that way.

I like dogs WAY better than cats, but cats can be pretty cool too.

I have VERY strong opinions that I usually keep to myself because I feel no one gives a crap about my opinions unless they share them ;)

Best of all, most people do not know that I met my husband over ten years ago in an IRC chat room. He is from London England and after a brief internet courship and a few visits (him here and me there), he moved here to the states (legally!), married me, and became a daddy to my two older girls too! We are still married and happier today than we were ten years ago!

Meadowlark Lemmon??!! I haven't heard that name in 30 years! I remember he was cute and had a great smile and style.

He came into the local Safeway one day in the little town in Arizona where we lived. My son was with me and Meadowlark was just wonderful to him. We had tickets to go see them the next night in the local school gym. I used to love the Globetrotters! "Sweet Georgia Brown" was their theme song.

In my little hometown in Oklahoma, the very first basketball team similar to the Globetrotters was started by a local. They were the Harlem Magicians. He eventually had a large house ouside of town with a basketball court in the basement. That isn't such a big deal today, but it sure was back then!

say this is tempting....to open the veil a bit...

i have macular degeneration among a couple of other eye problems, have worn Patches and glasses most of my life, yet spent 16 years across three universities to study oils. I own and operate an oil painting studio and gallery. I have other galleries that represent me across the nation and have done corporate commissions in the US and inside Canada as well. Ive got portfolios, websites, agents, publicity and the whole bit.... I dont know how long i can keep it up.

lizrbit: You make me so ashamed! I love to do watercolor. I had a very small measure of success, especially compared to you. But instead of pursuing it and following my heart, I gave up because it was so difficult. I have no excuses. I admire your accomplishments very much!

When I was young (and a LOT thinner) I took ballet for 8 years and I was a competative swimmer.

My mother died when I was 13. She was very overweight and went into the hospital to get her stomach stapled. She never came home.

I love playing video games...especially puzzle games.

I graduated college last year when I was 28 years old.

Everytime I dream and I am in it, I am skinny....never fat.

I also think Johnny Depp is sexy.

When I was a child I had straight hair. Then when I hit puberty, my hair became super curly and stayed that way.

Ditto. I think people would be surprised to learn that I'm more than a bit of a mouse in real life. I'm not nearly so outspoken. I just have a few triggers that really set me off on the internet. I don't think I know everything, but I'm not ashamed to talk about the things I do know just because other people might not. Sometimes, I think that makes people resent me.

Great Thread:

1. I am a Dead Head, and have seen them over 100 times.

2. I am nearly finished w/ my doctorate degree.

3. I am a lesbian!!! Began that journey nearly 3 years ago...best thing I've ever done. Yes, it is a decision I made, plain and simple.

4. I collect books.

5. I sing everything I can...all the time. I don't do it well, I just do it.

6. I believe the glass is half full.

7. I believe people are basically good.

8. I am very spiritual and Catholic.

9. I get bored w/ Rants and Raves here in LBT. I think opinions are like assholes...everyone has one, and we all think each other's stink!

10. Although I am a slow loser w/ the band...I am still happy w/ my decision.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
