How much food should I eat

Recommended Posts

Well, without knowing what program plans you were given by your bariatic team, all I can tell you is where I was at in that stage.

All the way through my first four months, my limit was 1/3 cup plus two tablespoons. Early on, it was difficult to get even that much in. You will be surprised at how little food the human body needs to survive.

I'm surprised your program didn't give you any guidance on these matters. You should share who your surgeon is so that pre-op people looking for a surgeon will know to avoid him/her and his/her team's shoddy post-op care.

That said, these are the guidelines I had when I was in the puree phase:

3 meals per day, no Snacks other than Protein Shakes.< /p>

Meals are to be 3 tablespoons of food max.

No liquid calories other than Protein shakes.< /p>

All foods must be high-protein: meat, eggs, dairy, soy, Beans, nut butter such as Peanut Butter or almond butter. Small amounts of sauces are permitted with your meat.

Nut butters must be weighed and limited to no more than 15 grams per day.

All meat must be pureed in a food processor or blender.

My program was 4 ounces per meal and when I was on puréed I did scrambled egg, yogurt, pudding (add unflavored Protein powder), apple sauce, refried Beans (I had trouble the first time I ate these).

Start with guidelines but also eat slowly and listen to your body - if you're starting to feel full don't try to clean your plate because it looked like a small portion or because the guidelines say you should get in a gazillion grams of protein....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
