gpmed 623 Posted April 11, 2016 I'm wearing new pants today and noticed they felt somehow different. I figured out it's because they're actually touching my butt instead of hanging off! Isn't it funny how used we can get to wearing clothes that are a little too big after surgery? In other news, I am about 1.5 pounds away from onederland. So close I can almost taste it! gpmed 623 Posted April 11, 2016 I know the feeling! I've given a lot of nice clothes to Goodwill this month. Maybe we should start a thread somewhere to alert each other when really good sales are happening?
sharkgirl 251 Posted April 11, 2016 Great job on the weight loss! I am trying to break into different styles instead of sticking with my "normal".

gpmed 623 Posted April 11, 2016 @@sharkgirl Me too! I accidentally tried on some skinny ankle length jeans at Marshalls recently (thought they were capris). I used to only wear bootcut, but they are actually cute! I'm having a good time with different styles, but I keep feeling I need to check in with someone and ask "does this look all right?" My best friend has promised to tell me if I'm wearing anything that looked dated (the style I'm used to from when I was last thin 10 years go) or too young. sharkgirl 251 Posted April 11, 2016 So I am having a hard time trying to figure out where to shop. When you are plus sized your choices are limited and now I don't know where to shop that is cute and trendy but not too young. I definitely don't want to dress like my daughter even if I can fit into her clothes. I have said this before, but this is the fun part of losing this much weight and keeping it off for more than a minute.
gpmed 623 Posted April 11, 2016 @@sharkgirl May I ask where you are in sizes? You're right that it does get easier when you get out of plus sizes. I'm actually riding the line between plus and regular. I can wear mostly XL tops (a few L) and 14 and 16 bottoms. I've had good luck at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. sharkgirl 251 Posted April 11, 2016 I am wearing a L and size 12 pants. My problem is my waist is definitely a 12 but my thighs have caught up to the rest of me. I bought a pair of Miss Me jeans because I could but the waist is a bit big which is a bummer because they were expensive.
sharkgirl 251 Posted April 11, 2016 I bought some cut skinny jeans at Target and Maurices
mngreeneyes 674 Posted April 11, 2016 I have a two coworkers who I have specifically told that they are supposed to tell me when an item of clothing is too big. Today, I put on a favorite shirt that was too small at surgery but has been getting looser. My first thought was, this is the last time I get to wear this. Both Tonia and Leah's first words to me when I saw them was, time to retire the shirt! I am a clothes horse and I have a nearly empty closet right now because I don't want to spend any $$ on clothes because they are getting too big so fast. The pants that I have been wearing for about a month suddenly are too big and need to be replaced. Not a bad thing, but hard on the wallet. Going to drop some stuff at Goodwill this week and probably bring a few things home depending on what I find. Congrats on your loss! pam
bigbit 99 Posted April 11, 2016 I seem to be losing weight at different rates in different parts of my body. I wore 5X shirts and pants when I started - I'm down to 4X on the shirts and still some 4X shirts are a bit snug. On the other hand, my pants are down to a 3X and I'm getting ready to go to a 2X. My surgeon said this is normal - that the belly goes last - but when I was younger, I was heavier in the legs. I'll take the progress as it comes.
fernandfj 469 Posted April 11, 2016 I've gone through a whole bunch of sizes over the past eight months and am now able to shop in stores I never used to even go into. I've tried to be very conservative in what I've bought and only buy enough clothes, especially work clothes, to allow me to go a week. I've spent a lot of time on ebay and online looking for the best deals as I don't want to spend much as I keep on going down. I started as a 50-52 waist and am now a 36 and my shorts have gone from 3XL to L (and L is now a bit loose. I can't wait until i stabilize and can actually think about a wardrobe as opposed to just buying the bare minimum required.
needtorecover 574 Posted April 11, 2016 I was really happy when I went shopping last weekend - bought a few shirts that are a size smaller than I normally get. Just bought a new swimsuit from swimsuitsforall.com. I make sure everything I buy is discounted even if it's not the cutest. I am worried about spending a lot of money on clothes I'll only wear for a couple months. My jeans are starting to hang off my butt a little bit and I have to hike them up if I'm walking around too much. I'm hoping I can stretch these jeans until I'm a size 20 because I have a BUNCH of jeans in my "when I finally lose weight" box. I was only a size 18/20 for a year or so because I gained weight over a 3 year period when I went to grad school stress, you know? Glad I got the degree but I don't recommend stress eaters earn a graduate degree part-time while working full-time. Between the takeout and the wine I consumed to cope with reading, writing, and working all the time I ballooned substantially. But hey, speaking of stress eating, it's the most difficult month of the year for me at work and I haven't binged once. I ate a little chocolate cake thingie on Saturday but once I finished it my stomach hurt from the sugar so I didn't eat any other carbs the rest of the day. That's a pretty big deal for me. Usually I'm like a hog at the trough pushing food down my throat to cope with the stress. Not anymore. My new thing is to either sleep, zone out, or shut down. God willing the weather will improve and I can take a walk or a bike ride. Exercise is a much more productive and effective way to cope with stress but because it's been cold and rainy all I do is sit on my butt and either stare into space, watch TV, or read a book. Better than doing that while shoving chips in my mouth! Thank you, Lap Band!
snickysnack78 131 Posted April 11, 2016 Clothing can be a pain sometimes. Right now im in the awkward phase where my shoulders are almost normal size, but I still have the stomach and excess skin. Love shape wear, however all the clothes I buy I can only wear once or twice.
