2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 11, 2016 That depends on your surgeon, whether you need hernia repair, that kind of thing. Speaking broadly, these days anesthesiologists use short-acting drugs that don't hang around in your system for long. Anesthesia is much, much easier than it used to be (from a patient standpoint). Mostly you feel like you've had the soundest sleep of your life.
Kristin Hernandez 11 Posted April 11, 2016 They said it was about 50 minutes. It felt to me like I blinked and when I opened my eyes, they said I was done.
dashofsunshine 875 Posted April 11, 2016 My whole surgery took about 3 hours. That was how long my family waited, from the nurses wheeling me back to the doctor coming out to say "everything is great." How long I was actually UNDER, I cannot say. The worst part about it is the thirst when you wake up, honestly. I felt like a million bucks when I first woke up, aside from the thirst. Then I went back to sleep for several hours, and that second wake up (once the anesthesia has worn off, more or less) was when my body let me know I'd, uh...had major surgery. miraclemaker 3 Posted April 11, 2016 I am day 5 from my gastric sleeve. The surgery took 1 hour. I had some issues with high blood pressure so I was in recovery for 2 and a half. Didn't wake up til in my room. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
MaeMae 9 Posted April 12, 2016 Mine took about 2hrs - walked into ER joking w/ staff just to ease my own nerves. Had a really good experience; all things considered Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
