That depends on your surgeon, whether you need hernia repair, that kind of thing.

Speaking broadly, these days anesthesiologists use short-acting drugs that don't hang around in your system for long. Anesthesia is much, much easier than it used to be (from a patient standpoint). Mostly you feel like you've had the soundest sleep of your life.

They said it was about 50 minutes. It felt to me like I blinked and when I opened my eyes, they said I was done.

My whole surgery took about 3 hours. That was how long my family waited, from the nurses wheeling me back to the doctor coming out to say "everything is great." How long I was actually UNDER, I cannot say. The worst part about it is the thirst when you wake up, honestly. I felt like a million bucks when I first woke up, aside from the thirst. Then I went back to sleep for several hours, and that second wake up (once the anesthesia has worn off, more or less) was when my body let me know I'd, uh...had major surgery. Haha

Mine took about 2hrs - walked into ER joking w/ staff just to ease my own nerves. Had a really good experience; all things considered

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
