I went through True Results and it turns out my insurance does not cover the surgery, they do cover hernia repair. I have an appt this week for my EGD and I'm freaking out they won't find a hernia. I don't have any symptoms! I really need this surgery! Is it bad I'm praying for a hernia?

My insurance does not cover WLS. I didn't have any symptoms for a hernia other then the occasional heart burn. I had my EGD done and have a pretty bad hiatal hernia. Now, my insurance would cover that but my surgeon will not bill my insurance for the hernia (he feels it's not ethically right for some reason) so i have to pay out of pocket for that as well and hope that insurance will reimburse for SOME of the hernia repair.

My insurance covers the surgery, but I have to 50% up to the allowance. My copay was about $1050.00, but I have a $150 copay to the hospital and a copay for anesthesia. I am still not sure what the anesthesia copay will be. However, if I have a hernia, my insurance will pay 100% for that. I was not required to have a EGD so I will not know if they have had to do a hernia repair until I come out of surgery. I am scheduled for this Thursday.

Good Luck you guys!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
