Cigna Requirements for Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Yes. Cigna required 3 months (generally spaced 1 month apart) and has to be a total of "greater than" 89 days.

My Cigna requirements are 4 months of weigh-ins with the primary care physician and 4 months of nutrition counseling (and weigh-ins there, too). Psych evaluation is also required. Also a letter of medical necessity.

I had to have 5 months of weighins, but they still gave me appts for all the other testing. Just had my last weigh in and preop in the same appt I have a tenative surgery date of may 13th. Still waiting on ins. They just faxed all paperwork to them yesterday.

@@mnopali - They cannot submit to Cigna for approval until all those things are done. Then Cigna takes 1 to 2 week (usually) to respond and then you get a surgery date (once approved). SO, 4 months might be a little quick, but I would say you could look at 4 to 5 months. My first consolation was January 20, 2015 and I had surgery on June 4, 2015.

I started the 3 month "medically supervised diet" and was going through the other processes during it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
