Period during surgery...

Recommended Posts

Sorry may be TMI. My surgery date is 5/18 and its smack dab in the middle of when my period usually comes. Please tell me, they'll let me wear something during surgery and not just use those blue pads for the bed?? Lol. This has been in my mind since I got my surgery date.

So I'm using the implant as birth control, which causes me to have very little periods (maybe one or two periods of spotting a year) and I have not had a period this year yet, but my chooses to come the day before surgery! So I too was worried about how the surgeon and nurses would feel about it but it wasn't a big deal, they just gave me the hospital panties and pads, (you can't wear your own for the operation). When I went back to recovery and my room they did put down those blue pads on my bed, which made me feel like a puppy in training. lol but it was all good, I survived and you too will be fine!

Well after the operation you can use your own, but you probably won't even feel like grabbing your own til the next day when you are able to take a shower and stuff. Well at least that's how I felt. I was out of it until the next day. My surgery also ran kinda late. I finished around 6:30pm. So depending on what time your surgery is scheduled for you may be able to change ASAP if you want.

Oh yea we are the bypass forum, sorry I'm still learning this site/app. Well best of luck to you!

P.S. I've never really taken birth control pills but if you are on them, can't you double up or something or certain days to get your period not show up on a certain day?? I remember a friend mentioning something like this in college

Hormonal bc you might have to stop before surgery because of the small risk of blood clots

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
