haleymarie 35 Posted April 10, 2016 So I've had the cpap less then 1 week, and 2 days after using it started to get a sore throat, the sore throat then turned into coughing a lot, and coughing is now a runny nose. I now have all three of those things and feel so blah! I am unsure if it is from the machine or if I am sick! I was fine the day I got the machine and this just started happening! KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 10, 2016 What kind of mask do you have? You may just have a cold but you could also be sleeping with your mouth open which could cause a sore throat. Also be sure to have enough humidity (my machine has a built in humidifier and I can adjust it) and clean the filter frequently (especially if you have animals). BelgianGuy 350 Posted April 10, 2016 I had this as well, they only gave me a nose mask and I sleep with my mouth open (how charming ), it all went better when I had an hybrid mask. If your mouth is still really dry in the morning after the use of the hybrid mask, then you should ask a humidifier. Can't wait to get rid of my cpap though... haleymarie 35 Posted April 10, 2016 I'm not sure! the person who set up the machine at the doctors office told me not to touch the settings on the pressure or humidifier because it's what the doctor recommended....it's all auto for everything. It builds up to a max level over night.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 10, 2016 I would call them. It's not fun to wear ...feeling like crap certainly doesn't help. I take a Zyrtec (allergy pill before bed every night) and that helps alot. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

haleymarie 35 Posted April 11, 2016 No chin strap. I tried and the one they gave me is waaaay to tight. Squeezed my head and gave me headaches
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 11, 2016 Um, you HAVE to touch the humidifier to refill it, also to clean it. But it does sound as though you're sleeping with your mouth open. Or your humidifier is out of Water. I was told to use distilled Water in mine.

josiek1988 70 Posted April 11, 2016 @@haleymarie ...You most definitely want to make sure you are using distilled or at least bottled Water. As for the humidifier. ..you have to be able to adjust it to your needs. Some people need more or less. And as the seasons change so will the need for humidity. What kind of machine do you have. I work in a sleep clinic and may be able to tell you how to change the humidity. What is the humidity set on right now? haleymarie 35 Posted April 11, 2016 I have a resmed machine and I only use distilled water! The settings are on auto! I haven't chosen a level for the humidity...but the person told me to not change the settings or it won't be compliant for surgery....all the information is transmitted to the doctors and I can check my sleep score online every day....
