Help! Birthday Party!

Recommended Posts

My son's first birthday will be coming up soon, we have decided on a cook out on 8/18 due to work schedules. The thing is I will just be starting mushies that weekend. DH's family does not know about the band. Any ideas of what I can make and eat that will not draw attention? Thanks!

Chili! And get a big bowl, pick at it, and act like it just filled you right up that you can't eat anything more. :clap2:

I don't know about you, but when I'm having a party for my son I'm usually running around so much that there wouldn't be enough time to sit and have a meal. I suggest you have liquids during the party and eat when you can sit, chew and have a peaceful meal.

If it's a sit down, then chili or veggie chili would work. Have toppings on the side for like shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guac, chips.

Have fun,

Ellen

you will be so busy serving etc that noone will notice you are not eating---but if you must..try tuna salad or chili...or just make yourself busy with a tall cool glass of some liquid you can drink while serving everyone else!! Good luck--remember you are not the main attraction at this party---and hardly anyone will notice you are not eating. If you must sit down w/the family just put you food on the plate and push it around--get up to do something and when you get back the food will be cold and you cn just chuck it or maybe the dog will accidently get a treat!!! lol!!

Thank you for the replies, however, our heat index here has been around 106 degrees and if I served chilli, I think my family would probably drown me in the pool! I do like the idea of the tuna salad or maybe I could even do some chicken salad, that might work. Thanks again!

Hi,

I am having a cookout the same day. I have decided with my mother's help to grill some halibut or cod on the grill with mashed potatoes and gravy. It now appears that I am trying desperately to eat lightly and drink plenty of fluids. When you get up that morning. Eat a smoothy, then for lunch your fish and mashed potatoes, then something else for dinner.< /p>

Oh, thank you! Why didn't I think of that! My father goes fishing almost every weekend and they have a freezer full of fish. That would be perfect! Also I have a GREAT recipe from SBD. If you soak it in a little egg and roll it in a mixture of garlic and parmasean cheese it is as good as breading w/o the heavy breading. I will definately use this. Thanks!

Now you have added to my tasty fish for the 18th. What is SBD? i am going to try the recipe with the egg, garlic, and parmesean chesse. Now can I grill this, or do I bake it?

LOL, I don't have kids, and I'm not really around them..So I'm not sure about the 'running around' part, she just mentioned needing a decoy and I was covering the food disguise.

True, chili isn't a summer food really.. but it came to mind :)

tuna salad?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
