9 Days Until Surgery! Advice?

Recommended Posts

Hello loves,

My surgery is scheduled for 4/19. I was just wondering if anyone has any Pre/Post Op. advice?

*Best Workouts?

*Most Comfy Clothes for after?

*When did you start going out again?

*Hospital Bag?

Anything you have I'll take it! The only surgery I have had beside this is my wisdom teeth! Haha.

Take something loose to the hospital wear home. Either way they do the procedutre, laproscopically or open, you will not want anything tight around your abdomen. The other advice I have is, they say not to eat after 11 the night before, and I stopped at 8, but the surgeon said there was still alot of food in my stomach that he had to clean out before he could take the majority of my stomach out. Unfortunately I got an infection in one of my 5 incisions that is open at present and I am going to have wound care done every day. So my advise is, no solid food for atleast 24 hours before surgery. Dealing with this open wound is a pain, and dangerous. Also I found that my surgeon didn't know alot about wound care so once I returned home, 60 miles away, I was basically on my own. The best thing is to avoid that complication at all cost. Good luck to you you.

Thank you! My surgeon is all ready putting me on an all liquid diet the day before hand. ????

I have been on the liquid diet since Friday. So hungry, I'm looking forward to Tuesday. A week from today!

I bet you are elissa. My doctor should have told me to do that. But don't look too forward to eating because you will probably be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks after surgery and then on a soft diet for 4 weeks after that. You won't be really hungry and if you eat one bite too many or drink one sip too much, it will come right back up. I am still learning my limitations and the signals my stomach is sending to my brain to tell me when to stop eating. It is a work in process.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
