Lower left back pain 6 days post op?

Recommended Posts

You guys....I'm MISERABLE. For two days now the worst lower back pain on the left side, radiating up towards my upper back. I have no fever and can drink fine (although the clear Protein shakes have begun to make me gag but that's another story entirely).

Is this normal? I can't find our heating pad and I think that's part of what is attributing to my very very bad mood! I don't feel well and I have no idea how hard this recovery would be and right this second I'm so freaking OVER IT!!!! :-((((((

How much are you drinking? Possible kidney stones?

@@KLSUMM I'm coming pretty close to my Fluid intake each day. Nice light colored urine.

Someone told me that the stitches/staples are on that side and their nurse said that left lower back pain is normal....but I just wanted other opinions.

Gotcha. Stay on those fluids. It gets easier I promise!

Nothing worth achieving comes easy. It took years to get to need surgery. You know this is a good secession. Just stay strong and know these hard days too will pass. Chin up

Try taking something for pain and for gas. If you can, walk around and see if it improves. Call your Surgeon to tell them and get their input - they should be available 24/7. Hope you feel better soon!

My lower back on my right side hurts. It almost feels bruised, but it is not. My two week appointment is tomorrow, so I will definitely be asking. I was wondering about kidneys, too. Why are you drinking clear shakes? Yuck.

Find your heating pad stat or buy another one. I had that random pain for over a week and remember how painful it was. I also used the pain meds my dr sent me home with.

I'm 15 days post op and have been dealing with pain at waist & lower back on right side. My surgeon says its normal, so I take Tylenol and use my heating pad.. It's getting better everyday and I'm sure it will disappear eventually. Hang in there, your not alone.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
