I have united healthcare and have to wait 6 months, but there are others on this forum who have united healthcare and don't have to wait at all.

I have Kaiser. I was required to take a 6 week class (last class is today). In 7-10 days I will get a call from the surgeons office to schedule my official consult and will schedule the surgery. I first went to see a nurse practitioner in the weight management and she approved me for the classes. So I guess I met the basic Kaiser requirements.

I have BCBS of TX. There was no waiting period, or supervised diet plans that I know of. Of course, I had plenty of documented weight loss attempts prior. You had to have a minimum BMI of 35 I think with 1 of the listed co morbidities, or a BMI of 40+ without any comorbidities.

Health net doesn't require a wait you have to have been obese for two years and seen at least a dietician or nutritionist

It might not be required for my insurance and just a requirement of my surgeon? They have a huge program and think it's necessary for ppl to be successful to complete the program plus they don't want to risk insurance denying it so they come at them with all kinds of documentation lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
