I am 3 months post-op and I am not taking in as much as I should. I don't find food appealing and when I eat I feel sick; so I don't eat. Protein shakes are disgusting...I've tried many different pre made, as well as powders. Surgeon is watching for another 6 weeks and then I may have to have sleeve stretched....anyone else have this problem? I'm sooooo discouraged!

That's not good. I fear you are setting yourself up for failure. You are likely malnourished.

I understand you feeling sick but to refuse to eat because you don't find food appealing and refuse to drink Protein shakes because you don't like the taste are warning signs that you may be damaging your body.

The thing about stretching the sleeve is that it will let you eat more. So when you do start eating you will be able to eat far more than most patients who have not had their sleeve stretched. However, stretching the sleeve is the treatment if there is a stricture so maybe that's what you have.

Honestly, I would suggest you try more Protein Shakes. I've found the inexpensive ones from Walmart, like Body Fortress are the best for me.

You have got to eat. Are you not eating because you can't or you don't want to? You may just have to suck it up and do it. What does your NUT suggest?

Adequate nutrition, especially Protein and fluids is critical for healing.

Try to eat food as fuel. You will move past this feeling. Just like you fill your tank when your car is almost empty; fill it up with items that give you the most Protein. Sip your fluids, something you can actually drink all day. I like Powerade zero grape. I'm not getting 64 oz in but I drink as much as I can when I remember to.

I think a support group or therapist would help as well. Hang in there and don't give up.

Hi, I am 1 month out having some problems like that. I can't do the Protein shakes. they don't agree with me and are disgusting. I can't really eat anything. I've even had to go to the infusion center to get fluids. The doctor so far isn't too concerned but I am. We will work through this.

I have had the same problem. When I left the hospital after my WLS I was on an IV regimen for about 3 weeks because I could not swallow. The IV was remove but the only things I can tolerate are liquids. Hot tea and Soup is my food almost every day. The shake to me are too thick and make me sick. Surgery: 2/08/16

I go through this a lot myself but I can not let myself not eat. I throw up a lot when things don't agree I then wait for my stomach to calm and then drink a muscle milk, it had become a life saver. I have 3 cases right now. You must push yourself pass the feeling. I am coming up to 3 months since surgery and I know I don't eat enough so I'm really working on that. It seems to be an all day event at times. Try making yourself a meal plan and follow it. Try different Proteins. cheese really helps me, walnuts and almonds. And talk with your Nut.

Thanks everyone! I am trying my best to get my Protein in. Found a Protein shake with 30G in a single drink....if I ice it down, I can get it in over an hour or so. Found some high Protein Bars that I like, just have to watch the sugars in them. You are right Zoes.Realm, we will work thru this! So worth it!

You are 3 months, you can't eat real food? You could be eating fish and deli meat and all kinds of other sources of Protein at this point. When I was 3 months I only had Protein shakes as an emergency, all my protein came from real food.< /p>

Do you have a stricture?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
