I'm not trying to be harsh, but didn't your doctor or nurse tell you that the first 4/6 weeks after surgery is NOT about weight loss, it is recovery. If you read through the boards, you will see that many many many people do not lose the first weeks after surgery and often need multiple fills before the weight loss really starts. I'm sorry you are disappointed but try not to worry about the weight and focus on the post op diet/recovery so your body will be ready for the real weight loss.

wow your right its just hat when you read others threads and see the weight lost you can only began to wonder. i just frrl so discouraged. maybe thats why i havent lost too due to the amount of stress. i know everyone is different but why couldnt i be different in a good way. i also had my mind set on losin quickly but i must forgot about my luck.

yummie,

my advice would be to keep reading threads here. the first few weeks until you get your fill are sometimes called "bandster hell". you are tired, you are hungry and you arent losing weight.

this is a time for HEALING. its a time to stick to the guidelines your doctor gave you so your band can set in place. scar tissue needs to form around your band.

you will do great once you hit your "sweet spot" and remember, that may take 1 fill, but it may also take 7 fills - everyone is different.

good luck.

When the human body is in a healing process its survival instinct is to not let anything go if it can. Sure, I too read about people losing lots the first weeks but I've also read where people haven't. Just let you body heal up. You have a good few weeks to go. Don't stress and do what the doc's tell you. Best Wishes!

I don't know what your stats are or bmi but I have only lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks.......I have a lower bmi and they lose slower, usually, than a higher bmi. I'm just glad I've lost 8 and haven't gained 8 which would have happened more than likely if I hadn't been banded. Rejoice in your 3 lbs.....there is alot more to come! Get excited!!!:bounce:

amen to all that has been said here so far - you also said you've lost inches - that is nothing to sneeze at - you could also be gaining muscle which weighs more than fat - so don't just go by the scale - the first 2-3 weeks suck bigtime but it gets better - don't get discouraged

One word really jumps out at me reading your post, and that's "luck". I think it struck a chord with me because I've had somewhat of a "magical thinking" approach to losing weight in my life. Kind of thinking that if I want to lose weight, and think about it, the scale might go down even if I'm not eating what I should. I'd get on the scale and wish for results.

So I've learned luck or something like it has nothing to do with this. Yes, our bodies are different and we will lose weight at different paces. Some of that I suppose is luck in a way, but you also can do everything you can to give yourself the best outcome. We all have a lot more control then I think we realize, and I find that exciting.

Don't give up!! Be commited to the long term and you will have success! Let go of your previous "diet head" expectations and let it be!

3 pounds is something to celebrate! :whoo:

Today I my 13th day since I have been banded. So far I have lost 12 pounds and I feel in the same situtation that you are in. Not by any means am I complaining over my weight loss, or lack of it. I lost all 12 pounds the first week. For this entire second week the scale has not even moved the littlest bit. I am starting to get discouraged and have no idea what I'm doing wrong since I already started working out everyday and eat hardly anything!? I'm just hoping that once I get a fill, hopefully in about 4 weeks, that I won't be as hungry obviously and then I will start to see the weight come off that I have worked so hard to lose.

I know it's frustrating, but really this time is to let everything heal up well, not lose weight! Think of it this way, you have the tool now, but it's not turned on yet. Once it is, you'll be on your way!

thanks all to responding i feel a little better but sometimes its odd how things work for different people and before you get banded you have convinced yourself that you wll be one of the people to loose a lot of weight in a little time but it doesn`t work like that. i will allow myself to heal and i am looking forward to eating. i am hungry want to make a smoothie but i hate to go out. dr. said i can have ensure or anything liquidfyable so please if tips they are more then welcome. i will hang on thanks to all you great lapbanders. i luv everyone thanks for supporting me.

Everyone is different. Wait until your body heals. Use other people's success as inspiration and not comparison. You will be fine.

When I attended the post op seminar one of the 1st things they told us everyone is different some people will loose very quickly at first others may take longer until their body understands what is required of it. Don't dispare it will happen. It is still early days

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
