koolbreez 0 Posted April 9, 2016 Hello All, not sure if I am typing in the right field but I have been researching the gastric sleeve for some time now and really think I want to get this. Is there anybody on here that has Info about individual insurance that I can get that would cover the procedure
loren120515 16 Posted April 9, 2016 Hi, I have anthem blue cross blue shield ppo. They cover almost everything. The hospital stay and Doctor. My out of pocket was only 247 dollars which was for the anesthesiologist. I had my insurance for only 3 months when they approved my surgery.
koolbreez 0 Posted April 9, 2016 Thank you so much. Does it matter what state you live in?

Proud2BMe 1,016 Posted April 9, 2016 Self pay is also an option, just so you know. I had mine done in Tijuana and the experience was just the same as if I had it done in the states.
Deletemyacct 39 Posted June 6, 2016 @@loren120515 I'm in FL& I have the same insurance. My company just switched to bcbs-ca. What was your experience getting approved, what requirements did u have to meet? I called & I was told the surgery is covered as long as its medically necessary, have my pcp letter & get it pre-authourized. Was that your experience? Kindle 8,667 Posted June 6, 2016 Louisiana is one of the states that does not require individual ACA policies to cover WLS. So you are unlikely to find a policy at all that would cover it, unless your employer has opted to add that to their coverage. I am in ID and self employed so there is no policy from any company that I could get that would cover WLS. Because of this you are probably looking at self pay. That's what I did.... Saved up for over two years, had VSG at the Obesity Control Center in TJ, lost over 100% of my excess weight and am keeping it off 2 1/2 years later. Good luck. loren120515 16 Posted June 6, 2016 @@Deuel30 My experience was pretty good. My insurance approved it right away. Do you have a surgeon already? My doctors office submitted everything and got it approved within 2 weeks.
