3 weeks post-op & still in pain

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on March 22, 2016. I am still in so much pain on my right side where the stomach was removed. It hurts to walk. I called my dr's office and they said that everything sounds normal. That my muscles are healing so they start cramping up. They told me to use a heating pad on my stomach and that should help with the muscle pain.

I've tried it for 3 days now and still no relief. The only relief I get is from sitting back. I know I need to walk but I am just in too much pain. My husband is so frustrated with me and I'm frustrated with myself.

I'm still sitting up to sleep because it still hurts to lay down. Then I'm getting restless leg syndrome so it has been keeping me up at night.

I've lost 16lbs. since surgery but I'm so depressed and really regretting the decision to have the surgery. I was so active before and now confined to the couch. Is anyone going through the same thing or have been through this post op?

I don't have enough experience to know what falls within the range of "normal" experience. It didn't hurt me to walk at 2 & 1/2 weeks though. Do you have any fever? Is your belly *really* tender to the touch if you gently press around with a fingertip (away from incisions)?

I was the same way and it still hurts but not as much now. I was sleeved on 3/23, it will get better with time but to be honest with you the more I walked the better I felt. I'm not sure why you're not able to lie down without being in pain sounds like this maybe something else. I really wish you the best, it will get better I was the same way trust me but with a lil walking everyday made it so much better.

Push yourself to get up and walk. Don't give in to it. Also, take the pain medication or Tylenol to see if that helps. I had a hard time sleeping too. I put pillows all around myself and took Tylenol at night! Don't give in.

I too hurt quite a long time after surgery at the incision site where my stomach was removed. I took pain meds and walked. It did go away and I feel GREAT now (3 months later which includes getting my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago).

It is nice to know that I'm not alone. I don't have a fever and it isn't painful to touch any of the incisions. It is sore to touch a certain area that has hurt since surgery. I figure it is the nerves healing. I haven't taken any pain medication since 6 days post op. I will try that so hopefully I will be able to tolerate the walking easier.

Ok so are you taking liquid Tylenol for all this pain? And if so what's the dose? And are you still not lifting ANYTHING? I was told not to even lift a gallon of milk for the first 8 weeks and I didn't. I only would lift a half gallon at a time and even that was taxing, and I could feel it pulling my incisions. So I mostly had groceries delivered or neighbors help me bring stuff in. Even just washing out my glass blender was a strain because it was so heavy. So if you want to heal do not lift anything. If you still need to take opiates for pain 2 weeks out (you should not need to). Then you need to really have your doctor check your incisions to see if you have ripped any stitches, really need to look for any signs of infection (swelling, redness, etc). And really need to only take pain meds at night for a few days so you can sleep. I did not take a single narcotic since I woke up from sugery. Had iv Tylenol then liquid Tylenol when I was discharged home. Good luck and take care of yourself. You just had major surgery so take it easy.

I haven't been taking anything for pain. I was taking hycet for my pain right after being discharged from the hospital on a Thursday and stopped taking it on Monday. After that I've taken nothing. I did take some this morning so I could go to a school carnival with my children and actually be able to walk around without wanting to cry. I have lifted a gallon of milk but that is all. I was told not to lift anything 10-15lbs. I will call the doctor on Monday to be seen.

I put on a spanks top when I was having muscle pain that hurt to walk. It felt like it provided a little support. I went slow, held my stomach to lessen stretching/pulling feeling. In fact I often still wear my spanks if I am gonna be walking fast or biking and I want to feel a little support. You gotta do a little, even it's in just laps around your house.

I have noticed that wearing spanks do help and I'm constantly holding my side to provide the support. The problem with my spanks is that it hurts putting them on and taking them off.

Is it muscle pain? Pulling pain? Incisional pain?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
