Calcium Citrate alternatives?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've recently graduated to soft foods. This is also when I was instructed to start back up with my Vitamins, Calcium etc.

However it appears that I may have an allergy to the calcium citrate. I don't believe it could be anything else as it is the only new thing I've started taking.

I will be talking to my team (dr, nut, etc) on Monday about it, but I'm wondering in the mean time if anyone else has had the same issue and what alternatives have been suggested/offered. I'm going to stop taking it over the weekend and hope this settles down.

Thank you in advance,

Paula

I never heard of an allergic reaction to calcium citrate so I searched the internet and found the following article. http://www.drugs.com/cdi/calcium-citrate.html

interesting - I had not heard of it either until I saw the article the above poster posted. I wonder if it's the calcium citrate itself or some kind of binder in it. If the latter, maybe some other form of it might be more tolerable?

That's what I was thinking too. That it may be a binder in it.

You could try the new Bariatric Advantage Calcium Crystals with Vitamin D. You mix it with Water or whatever. It completely mixes in with whatever you put it with. It is pure calcium citrate. No other ingredients and it's not too expensive either. I just ordered myself some. to put it in with my smoothies and Soups. I agree with some above. It's probably other ingredients in it if that is why you are breaking out. My nutritionist said since this is pure calcium it will reap the rewards as the citrate does! Hope you get it all figured out! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
