Ok. I've been over this decision for 2 years now. I've finally made the choice I want to do this. However, I currently don't have insurance and I see these surgeons in Mexico are so inexpensive it's almost too good to be true. What's the real deal here? Are there more positive outcomes than negative? Realistically it's a lot easier for me to come up with 6,000 than the 20-30k I keep seeing here (ny) my bmi is 45 and I am just sick of looking at myself. And feeling this way. Any words of encouragement? Positive? Anything?! My frustration level is through the roof. I've done research over the last 2 years but I never feel like I know fully what to even look into? Ugh.

Do your research on whichever doctor you chose - I chose not to go to Mexico, but to Las Vegas and paid about 30% of what my local hospital was charging.

This is a huge decision and it's not to be made on a whim. i probably waffled 100 times after my decision to have surgery.

But, I can honestly say - this was the best decision of my life. I look back at all the nervousness, fear, anxiety, etc. and it was wasted energy.

You'll know when you're ready. Once you make the decision, commit to it - follow the rules, find a good support system and get yourself prepared.

Best of luck to you!

In my area it would have cost me about 20 grand for self pay. So I went to Tijuana. It was great. I would do it again in a heart beat. I ended up only paying $6,700, which included the sleeve, having my gall bladder removed and 2 first class flights.

I was in the same place as you are now. That's when I met Stacy with Bariatric Pal Team MX. She talked to me about surgery in Mexico and let me know that the stigma that is attached is not true. I loved that Stacy and Bill lived there and knew the doctor's and hospitals. I knew they had actually lied eyes on things and could tell me the ends and outs of the Mexico Medical Tourism. I paid less than$5000.00 including my plane tickets. Best decision I have ever made! The support system is awesome! The preop and post op care is amazing! I couldn't believe that the whole experience was so great!

You will know when the time is right for you. Do your research. Talk to different people about their experiences. Know what your getting into. It's not easy. food is no longer comfort. I eat to live not live to eat. I was sleeved 3/8. If you have any questions just message me.

I guess I was getting nervous because it's hard to tell who's genuine and who is trying to sell you something when you do the research. Everyone involved with the mx team seems great. It helps to know they are truly a good team, and it's not just a show.

I worried about that too. I worried about if that person had gotten paid to say those things about the company. LOL I wanted to know if it was honestly the truth. I took a chance and it was the truth! I didn't wanna leave Mexico

And does it have to all be paid in full before you get the surgery or is there a payment plan?

I had my sleeve done in Tijuana through Mexico bariatric center.

Was treated far better there than any hospital where I live...and I'm a nurse.

I honestly have nothing bad to say about the entire experience. They took care of everything.

They go in great details on what to do. You have pain meds but it's really an easy recovery.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
