Getting closer to the finish line......

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new this forum. I began my process on January 4th of 2016. After many Dietician visits, Psych. visits, sleep tests and Primary Dr. visits I was finally told that after my next dietary visit I would be green lighted for surgery. I met with my Surgeon this past Friday. He was very nice and answered all mine and my wife's questions. Reality is kind of setting in with me. I know this not a surgery I want to do but need to do for my long term health. Heart disease and Diabetes run in our family so I'm trying to be very proactive with my health now vs waiting down the line to do a procedure.

My main fears are the surgery itself. I HATE DR'S and HOSPITALS! I have had many operations on both my knees due to college football injuries so I kind of know what to expect on the day of surgery as it pertains to pre-op, Anesthesia, Etc.

Can anyone tell me how you felt coming out of surgery?

My surgeon has told me I will be hospitalized for 2 days.

How was pain?

I've had 2 major knee surgeries so I know what real pain feels like. I've seen so many conflicting reports about pain post VSG. I have complete faith that I will be kept as comfortable as possible but am more or less trying to prepare myself for what lies ahead after the surgery.

Protein/Vitamins

Does anybody have recommendations on Protein/Vitamin brands/Flavors?

Thanks for your feedback,

Steve

Well, I would consider the surgery the starting point, not the finish line. But that's me.

I had very little pain. It just felt like I was punched in the stomach. Having the drain removed 2 days later was the most painful part of the entire thing.

I tried the expensive Protein shakes and Vitamins but then settled on what I could easily obtain in my area, which is Body Fortress and Centrum chewables, both from Walmart. Both do the job.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
